David Aquila Lawrence is a Baghdad regular. He does stints there, and has been on many times before. He's a freelancer, and just works for the Beeb when reqired.
As I have posted in the BBC World Thread, I think Quil does all right and seems to know the region quite well despite being a newcomer. I also like his 'fresh' style to reporting from the region. I hope he stays for a considerable amount of time.

Who was responsible for the production of these Review Of The Year programmes? I notice that they seem to have gone out of their way to make the graphics as incompatible with News 24 as possible... which is odd considering the programmes are primarily for News 24 and presumably World as well.

Last year the graphics worked quite well for Review. Can't say whose producing them this year (whether it be inhouse or outsourced) but I noticed, from the bits I've seen today that Fiona seems to be involved in a few, instead of the God Geogre who *did* last year's.
A load of the 2004 review programmes were lost because of the Indian Ocean Earthquake though, I seem to remember a few going out overnight in the second and third week of January.
I agree with you that Quil is a good correspondent. I have a feeling he'll only be on over the Christmas period while they get their new correspondent ready.

As others have said Quil is only a new face - he's been doing radio from Iraq for ages - he works on the NPR/BBC co-prod The World. He's just covering a gap in TV terms. Carline H has gone, Andrew North doesn't start for a while and they have another temp correspondent on the way but isn't there yet.
I wonder what it must be like for broadcast journalists out in Iraq. Do they have bodyguards? I remember Caroline Hawley speaking to Gordon Burn's on North West Tonight last year and she was saying that her and the team have to keep a very low profile.
