Janet Barrie & Phillipa Thomas were both last behind the desk over the summer. Neither of them is outstanding. Phillipa is "Special Correspondent" for News 24, which suits her well, often presenting from location, currently Brussels. Janet Barrie is at home standing outside one court or another. Jake Lynch...I won't even bother. Clarence Mitchell - never on. He quite often puts reports together on a Sunday but is hardly ever seen these days.

Clarence left the BBC about a year ago. He works for the Government now.
Out of interest, Jane Hill is on her own now from 20:00 ...
Is this the first time News 24 has been single handed on a normal weekday before 2300?
Certainly not!
The News 24 launch schedule was single-headed from 1900 onwards in the days when it was Matthew Amroliwalla or Kate Garraway presenting, with Brenda Patterson also popping up quite regularly. There used to be a 7 O'Clock, 8 O'Clock etc. inset on the right of the screen. (There was no 9 O'Clock inset because Europe Direct was broadcast 2100-2200, with the news presenter sitting at the summary desk next to the weather centre position, rather than the main desk with the inset, whilst Europe direct came from the sofa set)

Janet had quite a long stint on the News 24/World joint overnight service and was rather good ISTR. Think this was around the same time as Samira Ahmed was presenting - prior to her maternity leave and move to Channel Four News.

Janet did do a very long stint on overnights. When i used to have to get up for work she would be on at 05:30 from that lovely 2nd edition flags era studio of News 24.It used to look so nice when the sun started to rise in the summer into the news centre until they shut the blinds!
Has anyone ever noticed that when the red beam in the countdown flies past the Empire State Building, one of the images gets stuck? At 18:07 to be precise! Same in World's countdowns.
They put them up on Saturday, one either side of the desk in the newsroom behind. Not sure if they have vanished or moved or simply not in vision since, but they were definatly there last Saturday.
The trees were only used during Breakfast last weekend in thew News 24 studio. However they should be there all day from tomorrow until the end of Boxing Day.
