Grrr... we've got this annoying Gwenan Edwards again tonight, instead of the lovely Joanna. Why is it that these two women seem to share the slot? Considering it's only Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, neither of them presents very frequently anyway, so why don't they do it every week?
Joanna is the main presenter of that shift, but there is an endless list of why she might not be able to present every week. She might have personal commitments for which she needs time off. She might only be contracted to work a specific number of days per year, hence she has the rest of them 'off'.
I really must protest at all this criticism of Joanna. Personally, I find her attractive and pleasant to listen to; she has impeccable received pronunciation (in contrast to the lazy Estuary English of, for example, Carrie Gracie) and a highly professional presentation style. I simply don't understand the argument that she is boring. What is there about her to be bored about? Why should she be less interesting than Gwenan Edwards, who to me sounds as though she has a permanent cold?
All of the N24 presenters are capable and qualified for what they are supposed to do - i.e. read the news and interview other people. I can never understand the fixation about people's looks and appearance. It shouldn't matter one bit.
I agree that Chris Lowe and Joanna Gosling are someone staid and plain, but what else do we need them to be???????
It's the news, for goodness sake.
No-one ever seemed to complain about the fact that Alistair Burnet and Sandy Gall (neither of whom are oil paintings or great banterers) presented the most watched (and loved) news programme in the nation for years!
Now we all seem to have got it in for Chris Lowe and Joanna - for waht reason, I cannot fathom.
