New editor for the 1&6 - probably slightly more elements in common between the two. There'll be less competition between the 1 and the 6 - not so much of the Six trying NOT do do things the way the One does them. That'll save a few quid.
Yep - in effect this is a return to the situation in the late 90s, when there was a single editor for the One and Six, and a separate editor for the Nine. No new ideas under the sun etc. etc.
The BBC News chief, Helen Boaden, said today the corporation could afford to "take a bit more of a risk" on breaking news stories after lagging behind its rivals in identifying the July 7 explosions as terrorism.
Ms Boaden said the BBC had "learned a lot" from its coverage of the London bombings and would in future be prepared to take more of a risk.
BBC News 24 had continued to run with the official claim that three explosions in the London Underground had been caused by a power surge, long after its rivals ITV News and Sky had identified them as terrorist attacks.
Today Ms Boaden said that audience research carried out by the corporation showed audiences were "incredibly sophisticated" regarding the nature of breaking news.
"[In the major bulletins] audiences expect a very high level of accuracy and they are very unforgiving if we get things wrong," she said. "But with 24-hour news people understand that stories unfold and change. As long as we are trying as hard as humanly possible to get it right, they are happy."
Wow.
You really couldn't get that sort of crap from any other news organisation.
How long have Sky News been saying this and the BBC (Boaden included) been saying how wrong they were? About 5 years now, is it?
It's been an interesting day presenter-wise on the channel. Good to see Tim Willcox on now alongside Carole Walker. Not seen much of Tim these last couple of weeks, apart from his usual Sunday mornings and Friday nights, it's always good to see him cropping up at all times of the day covering.
"But with 24-hour news people understand that stories unfold and change. As long as we are trying as hard as humanly possible to get it right, they are happy."
This sounds almost like a direct quote from NIck Pollard at Sky....

"..we will tell viewers what we believe is going on, we will attribute every source, claim and figure that we quote. We will also tell viewers what we don't know. I have a feeling that viewers, who are now quite attuned to 24-hour news, understand the rhythm and dynamics of an evolving story and would rather be told what we believe is the detail of an unfolding story, rather than waiting until the whole story is known.'?
Grrr... we've got this annoying Gwenan Edwards again tonight, instead of the lovely Joanna. Why is it that these two women seem to share the slot? Considering it's only Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, neither of them presents very frequently anyway, so why don't they do it every week?
