harshy - Yes, Business Today has been axed. The aim is to cost-cut. That's also the reason why WBR is recorded - otherwise, they'd just be replacing one live programme with another. There would be no savings.

Moz - You're right, BBC World take a break in between the two stings.

thanks for the answer itsrobert, yes what I meant to say is why not do a simulcast with BBC World at 9.30pm, rather then show it one hour later.

I didn't realise WBR's music is from that era, it sounds just as good today as it always has.

god if you listen to it it *is* flags music isn't it. Obviously world's business unit is not run by the tinkering morons who insist on wrecking the music on the actual news.

Hello Hymagumba, well you are right there, as the presentation is still first class for this programme, as to the flags music, well I didn't have access to BBC World in the flags era, (I wonder just how many even knew about BBC World then) so my knowledge of the flags era is not strong. I'll have to look at the TV pres sites again to refresh my memory.

Whos presenting the sport on News 24 at the moment?

Here she is - any ideas?

I think she is called Rebecca Lowe (?). I remember noticing her too. Interestingly, on Chris Lowe's profile, I seem to remember it mentioning that his son and daughter are "sports journalists"...

I wonder if she is the daughter of our weekend presenter friend with the rather large bifocal spectacles?

Well now that they don't need to use the summary pod before & after BT, as they did, and they don't do summaries from there anymore, is it now only used during Dateline London?

It is used for the sports headlines quater past every hour.

Also I agree with the comments re: Tony last night with Jane. He did a good job, and they need some more male cover presenters to fill in. Unless they can clone Tim Willcox, that is.

Just flicking through the channels to see who's covering the rememberance service and glad to see News 24 isn't (as BBC1 is!) - but is a live Bush news conference of US plans to tackle bird flu really neccessary for UK viewers. It may be a global story, but this conference is essentially a US domestic matter!

Yeh, I saw that. At least they didn't make us watch the whole conference, but then again, News24 needed something else to talk about other than the memorial (if you wanted to watch it you'd watch BBC1 and I suppose News24 was there for more commentary). ITV News ended up talking about a racehorse dying. However, I find Geroge Bush's speeches entertaining...''One billion dollars...''

As we seem to be keeping score at the moment, I notice that News 24 was well ahead of Sky on the Blunkett resignation.

Erm, hardly.

Sky flashed up that he was 'expected to resign today' and had Adam Boulton in the studio, whilst News 24 were saying 'well, we're not sure what's happening, it's odd that he's not turned up for his Ctte meeting'. News 24 did then later flash up that he'd resigned (although I didn't see a source attributing it to anyone) and Sky then flashed up a report about 30 seconds later saying some MPs were saying that he'd gone.

Plus, News 24 have spent the past 45 minutes talking to James Lansdale outside Downing St saying ''So, James, remind us again of what's happened'' and having to replay interviews and phone calls and recycling as much information as they could. Sky have had about double the number of interviews and guests.

Comic that News 24 have a helicopter up in the air (why?!) and yet have no pictures of Blunkett, whereas Sky, who haven't graced Downing Street with 10000db of noise, are the only ones with pictures of him entering and leaving Government buildings around London this morning.

Good use of the ticker on 24 this morning, for the Blunkett resignation. They reverted to the old style ticker with the subject box in Breaking News red, later going to the dark blue; looks good

Ridiculousy on this story there has been a major turn-around! ITV NC has not confirmed that he had resigned yet but is reporting that "ITV News believes that Blunkett will resign." Whereas Sky were reporting "Reports: Blunkett resigns" whereas the BBC claims "Blunkett resigns"

Even though ITV News are talking about his resignation they haven't at any stage put a strap onscreen claiming that he has already resigned and even though they have been told by a few 'un-named' sources they are playing it a bit safe!

It's a good point.

I'm confused as to why it is that when there has been no official confirmation whatsoever of his resignation that News 24, supposedly the bastions of caution, are not attributing their story to anyone.

Whilst Sky are quoting MPs, and ITV are saying 'we know', News 24 are just saying he's gone and that's that... without any official confirmation. Seems a bit of a backtrack on their supposedly rigid policies on sources.
