· Veteran BBC newscaster Philip Hayton has quit the corporation because of a personality clash. Hayton walked out as he could no longer work with his weekday morning co-host on News 24, Kate Silverton. He says: "It boiled down to incompatibility. We did four hours of live TV every day, and you have to like each other . . . I've been with the BBC for 37 years and it is the first time I have had a problem like this. Maybe it is just the law of averages." But Monkey wonders why the BBC couldn't find another way to keep one of its longest-serving faces. It is a sign of how strongly Hayton felt that he quit with six months of a year-long contract to run. "It has been a privilege to work for the BBC," he said. "But it can be its own worst enemy."
HA
That's a shame really, I like his presentation style but he was more suited with Anna Jones, who has now gone to Sly News.

I'm actually glad Philip has gone, I found him so boring and dull...Kate and Simon will be a brilliant partnership and be more fresh first thing in the morning.
HA
I liked his authoritan style of broadcasting, but I must be in a minority, I think he worked better on his own, and he really looked good presenting BBC World News in the good old days.

I too liked Philip Hayton. He was, in my opinion, one of the best presenters News 24 had. I'm not really into over the top banter while I'm watching the news, and Phil never went OTT. That's not to say I completely hate any presenter interaction: I think Adrian Finighan is the best at it - he can even banter with himself! But, he never goes too far.
It will be a shame to see Phil go from N24. I'm not keen on Simon or Kate, so I'll probably watch later in the day from now on.

Simon's not too bad Rob, I just think he tries way too hard to appear laid back and at ease like most other presenters. ISTR an edition of Bfast a few weeks ago when he was particularly wooden and poor. But then again he's wonderful with Kate sometimes... I think it's just Sarah Campbell, brings out the worst in her presenters.

It will be a great shame. I've always liked Phillip Hayton on screen.
May I ask Rob, what kind of job do you do that allows you to watch rolling news channels in the daytime?
