BBC News special on BBC One and N24 at the moment with George Alagiah in New Orleans

I don't understand why they didn't use Bill to present that News Special. I mean do they really have to send Jon Sopel, Bill Turnbull and George Alagiah to New Orleans? Aren't two reporters perfectly enough? IIRC Bill only presented the Six O'Clock News from there and didn't appear on News 24 or any other bulletin.

Hmm - if you have to present Breakfast, One, Six, Ten and News 24 and World coverage from more than one location for long periods, then three presenters doesn't seem like overkill to me... You have to allow presenters time to prepare for their reports, and also George has arrived after Jon and Bill, so maybe they are beginning to rotate presenters.

God I'm hating Jake Lynch. He is honestly like listening to a typewriter... Agree?

Well I don't know whether anyone else saw that but a nice little closing there... on
World anyway.

Jake Lynch is indeed awful. His intonation is just completely wrong, and he sounds unnatural and stilted. I'm sure he's an excellent journalist, but as a presenter he's dreadful.

I suppose his numb streaming is why he is on at this time, but a last bank holiday Monday I beieve, he was on the One. He wasn't up to it.

That was Chris Eakin, wasn't it?

Off course at this time of night, News24 has its largest number of viewers by virtue of its rebroadcast on BBC1 and especailly BBC World

Well World's calculation is probably the blander the better, understandably, the nationalities of all the ears

Indeed - and Bill didn't only present the Six from there, he presented large swathes of Breakfast from there too on Friday and Saturday morning as well as today.

Last Thur and Fri Bill anchored Breakfast and the Six from the US, and Jon covered News 24 - there was no US anchoring on the One or the Ten. I suspect this week Jon will stay on N24, Bill might present for Breakfast and the One and George will do the Six and the Ten. On this basis, three presenters doesn't seem unreasonable at all.

Anyway returning to the topic in hand...

Great to see Karin and Simon this lunchtime. The pair were great together and some great camera work on the links with Sport.

During the election; At about 4.30 every day there used to be a slot from the "engine room" I was wondering if there any plans to reintroduce this? Quite liked it personally.

Yes, I too enjoyed the presenters going for a wander in the 'engine room'. I noticed that they only did it when Jon and Louise were on - if someone else was sitting in for either of them, they wouldn't do it. I suppose the only reason they don't do it more often is that apparently they use the camera from the headlines summary pod, so they have to de-rig and rig it again before/after the stint.

Interestingly, I saw Liz Pike go in there at 13:50 one afternoon a couple of months back (well after the election)

It was odd so see Simon doing the lunchtime slots.
