Chris Eakin was feeling unwell and had to go home - so Cole was press-ganged into coming on air early. (He wasn't too happy about it either, claiming he hadn't had time to read in).

Who's that female newsreader with Phil Hayton today on News 24 9-1?

Valerie Sanderson. She presented on News 24 from its launch in 1997 until c. 2002. She used to present the 13.00-16.00 shift with Bill Turnbull and eventually Chris Eakin.

Just a geeky observation...

News 24 were using the 'textured' red and blue business astons instead of the normal ones for the first 20 minutes or so after 9 this morning before reverting to the usual ones.

Sorry, was feeling rather tired and ill by late yesterday afternoon - should have detected the irony. Embarassed

Help out his colleagues = kiss the arses of the BBC Management, perhaps, Marcus?

This holiday season is great... different pairings, presenters on at "unusual" times, blasts from the past, field reporters being brought in... i think it should be more like this... more random... makes it more interesting and less predictable...

Jake Lynch is now on... Phil Hayton earlier this morning (Weekend 24) splitting Carrie Gracie's Saturday 1000-1300 shift into two...

Yes he was on Breakfast and, IIRC, on again tomorrow. Out of interest the presenter Ben G... who presented with Jane this week (mentioned on the last page) did he present Breakfast on a Saturday sometime last year?
