I know it's been discussed here before about News 24 simulcasting the 1, 6 and 10, but I think they should go the other way.
At the moment News 24's format at 1, 6 and 10 is the same as it always is. Very often you can flick between BBC One and News 24 and they are showing the same report, albeit a couple of seconds behind. What's the point of this.
I think News 24 should do something different at 1, 6 and 10. Maybe a quick summary and then perhaps an in depth look at a big story or a story not currently on the news agenda.
They could trail before the TOTH that BBC One will be giving a 30 minute round up, but stay with us for...whatever. Obviously if a big story is breaking, they'd drop the planned in depth and concentrate on that.
This way News 24 could be more distinctive again than Sky News.

I think that would be a very good idea; indeed, it would certainly offer something different for viewers to choose from, something that I, personally, would find interesting. I've always thought that N24 could do with having a bit of a different service from Sky et al and should have an hour of purely international news at 2000. I would certainly watch that.
On a completely unrelated note, I noticed that N24 took to broadcasting Robin Cook's funeral, in full (as far as I could tell) this morning, while other rolling news channels did not. Surely it would have been better for them to put this on their "News Multiscreen" and continue with news coverage? Or if the BBC felt the need/have to broadcast such events, surely BBC Two may have been a better place to put it? I'm not denying Robin Cook's importance, but I felt that it shouldn't have taken up such a chunk of N24's broadcasting time this morning.

Why at 2000!!!!? My point was do something different at 1, 6 and 10 as there is an alternative news programme on BBC One. If they did something different at 8 then there'd be no alternative (and The World is on BBC Four at 8 anyway). I'd be all for an in depth more World focussed hour at 6pm on News 24.

Oh, yes, I agree with your argument for the alternative! I wasn't quibbling with that, I just think that having an international bulletin would be good for the channel, and I picked 2000 as a slot at a different time from your idea so as to allow both! Just a thought...

Not at all! I just thought it was slightly excessive. If you're tuning in for news coverage (as I was as I was going to work before the One came on) then it just turns you away from the channel. I'm not saying they shouldn't have had it covered, merely that they put it on Multiscreen and carry on with news coverage. Or even, to have dipped in and out of it, passing comment, rather than showing the whole thing.

The problem is, if you're the controller of News 24 and want to spend extra money (due to extra journo's time) preparing analysis slots, why would you put them on at the time when most BBC News viewers are on BBC One?
It makes more sense to show them at a time when you haven't got 6 million people getting news from BBC One, ie. at 7-10pm

So you suggest they broadcast a complete duplicate of what's on BBC One? What's the point of that? The analysis slot wouldn't need extra journalists, just a couple of guests and a discussion led by the presenters. I'm sure the presenters would actually like to do that - get their teeth into a topic rather than repeating what they did an hour ago!
