AIUI the normal schedule is for Fiona to present two Ten O'Clock News bulletins each week, and Huw the other four. Unlike the One and Six - which run 5 days a week - the Ten runs for 6 days a week, as there is a Ten on Sunday. (Fiona usually presented the Friday and Sunday Ten O'Clocks)

It's questionable really whether you'd count the Sunday edition - it may be branded as the Ten, but it isn't really. Do they use the Ten editorial team, or just the Weekend team?

It is branded as the Ten - so it IS the Ten. This was a commitment made when the BBC moved the 9 O'Clock News to 10pm to run their late evening news at a fixed time 6 out of 7 days a week, when ITN were in their "News at When?" stage when you had no idea what time their news was likely to be.

It is produced by the weekend editorial team - which these days is a joint operation with News 24.

However many of the journalists who work on the Ten during the week, as well as those who work on the One and the Six, will also work on the weekend teams. They aren't a separate operation - the weekday teams work on the weekend bulletins as well.

Well, yes and no.

The Sunday 10 is the 10 in the way that it is branded, but it is not the 10 as it is shorter than the main weekend bulletins, and there is no regional opt.

They may both be the 10, but there is a difference, such as 'milk chocolate' can either be 'dairy milk' or 'galaxy', if you get my drift.

The 10 can be the Sunday 10 or the Weekday 10.

Yep - this is because there are no regional weekend bulletins at 2200 - so no regional news operations there to do the opt, but that is an N&R thing not a News thing.

The duration is a BBC One scheduling decision - I think it was decided to create a News and Current affairs hour with a 15 minute Ten (inc Weather) and a 45 minute Panorama.

Yep - the key thing is that it is branded as "The Ten" - whereas a bulleting at 2200 on Saturday, or a Bank Holiday, wouldn't be...

I can remember him doing it once, the day Saddam Hussein was captured.

Perhaps he'll be around for the verdict tomorrow then. What time is that due, and have any news specials (on all channels) been scheduled?

I often wonder... why don't the BBC just schedule the news at 10pm On Saturday??? Most of the time its 950 or 955 anyway..... would make more sense then it has a seemless flow of 10pm bulletins daily, albeit shorter at the weekends??

I'm amazed nobody got all excitable that Moira presented todays bulletins.

I was half expecting several pages discussing the matter and the likes of some gushing how she should be given a bigger role on BBC News.

Oh well Laughing
