Once again the Ten starts late tonight - at about 22.03. News 24 were aware as they carried through with the weather, but why's it happening? Is it policy, or just slack timing because it's done outside TVC now?

Not everyone's precious BBC running late? and everyone now sticking up for it? Shocked

When ITV used to run the news late it warranted it's own thread and everyone here would join in on how bad it was etc etc.
But now the BBC do it seems to be acceptable. Evil or Very Mad

I heard a rumour that Channel 4 has turned into ITV, Five into Channel4 and now BBC1 into ITV1.....

where are people sticking up for it? I didn't see that?

Course knowing BBC1 if they cut the 400 trailers they show between the shows it would make up the 3 mins...

Former BBC foreign correspondent-turned-politician Martin Bell has accused the corporation's Six O'Clock News of turning into "a parody of something between Down Your Way and Nationwide".

Which is what 'The One Show' is supposed to be ?

Kerplunsky's Christchurch OB on Monday also featured in South Today, obviously to lazily pad out that show with pseudo local issues. The entire 18:00 to 19:30 segment is worthy of ITV1. Thank god for C4 News at 19:00.

What are you like? The absence of many negative comments doesnt necessarily mean that everyone is defending it.

Also, isnt there a pretty vast difference between starting three minutes late on the odd occasion and starting somewhere between 1-30 minutes late (depending on which night it was) on a constant basis as the so called "News at When" used to do?

Is it just me or are more and more reports on top stories being compiled in London, to be followed by a live "update" from a correspondant on the ground?

Jon Brain seems to be the handyman reporter, last week he covered the killing of the tourist in Amman, violence in Iraq / Afghanistan and the death of Steve Irwin, and they of course then went live to someone else to repeat what Jon had said. And then during the political crisis Nick Robinson seemed to be too busy writing his blog to compile a report so was limited to only a live sequence to hyperbole while out of focus, after the main item.

Is everything just being done in London using the live feeds saving the hassle of compiling a report on the ground?

Where in London is the backdrop they use for the 10 o clock news? I've been more distracted by that aircraft warning light fading in and out on the building behind Darren rather than concentrating on what he's actually saying... could they not have used a different camera angle so as not to have that distraction in the background?

Very distracting
But the light is pretty much all over the studio, in different places

Shame they dont move the desk from the corner, it makes everything look pretty boxy when its shoved over

It's not London - it's gfx.

If you're distracted by something as miniscule as that, perhaps you should go back to the time before in vision news readers, or we should ban female newsreaders because I may be otherwise engaged by Natasha Kaplinski's lip gloss!? Rolling Eyes
