Is Breakfast definately moving to the News 24 Studio.?.

I am not keen on the main news desk, unless they use the section used for News 24 sunday.

I believe that it is moving but, as for the date, I have heard many conflicting rumours as to when. I don't think that it would be feasible to use the area used for N24 Sunday - the area they use always strikes me as being cramped and claustrophobic. They might as well broadcast from a corridor (but then again I am a fan of the N24 studio desk Wink )

It needs a new-look, no doubt about that.

It would probably be better if they had a sofa, with the news 24 background, or even a shot of London in the background.

Have Moira closer to the sofa, a virtual section for the weather and space for Declan.

It would be good to have everybody together, the banter would be good.

But then they'd be all squashed.... oh wait. Look who I'm talking to.

No - have them in the N24 studio - but have a curtain with that backdrop, however sh!te it is, that they can pull around the glass to make it look like it's there. Have Brekkie fully extended to nine thirty, then World News, then all done and ready for ten again.

why not open the left hand set up into the news room and put the proper sofa in the newsroom? or present it from the balcony?

That left hand area is completely useless at the moment. Quite why they need a dedicated area for "stand-up summaries" I'm not sure - the right hand area with the screen would be perfectly sufficient, and if they don't want the screen in shot, there's no reason why they couldn't simply shoot from a different angle.

Something really needs to be done with the left hand area, and cramming a sofa in there and giving it an actual purpose rather than a generic, undefined, largely useless space seems better than its current role.

Because it's where people work. Not everywhere can be a set.

I think they are due to move to the N24 set next year, when the studio technicians contracts expire. They do have a red sofa set that they used on Good Friday and on other occasions that they use on the right hand side of the N24 studio. They also have a red carpet that goes down on the floor too. I would imagine they would use that area and have Moira at the desk, as she is for N24 Sunday currently. Business reports would still come from the Stock Exchange.

I quite like the left hand area of the N24 set, its a bit different. Plus they sometimes use the camera on that side to do interviews with the reporters in the newsroom behind the glass.

I doubt Moira would be kept on - the presenters will probably go between the sofa and desk ala 2000.

I remember once seeing a BOTH summary done from the right-hand area and it looked SO much better. Anna Jones was sitting on one of the stools and the screen was showing the globe & ribbons spinning around with a big 24 in the middle. The camera was zoomed so that we only saw part of the globe on the left hand side of the screen and Anna on the right. Very nice.

'Expire' isn't the term i'd use for being made redundant.

Be careful with your theories.

Well surely you can just get the big boss to sack them too?

Why are you being flippant?

Do you work? Are you over 18? Do you have a mortgage to pay?

The world doesn't revolve around television news; why isn't Tim Wilcox presenting today; why is the TOG doing odd things...

If somewhere is an office, like the news centre balcony, it can't be a set.

Why do you have to take everything so seriously all the time? I'm well aware you can't just shove a show into the middle of a working office.

I simply don't have the time and energy to write "well they could always see about moving the people who work on the balcony to another part of the building and then install appropriate equipment allowing them to broadcast from said area no doubt meaning a weekend from BBC World and joy for all Kleenex shareholders." In the same sense as saying "I'd like to build a house" I'm missing out the particulars.

And yes I do work, I am over eighteen and my parents have plenty money and haven't had a mortgage in 30 years.

Oh and I think you'll find the world revolves inside television news as illustrated by the following images which I shall hotlink from Mike's excellent site thetvroom...
