The reason today was probably money as Sportsround is currently broadcasting from Germany, this mean the gallery staff can be givena lie in and would not need to be in until an couple of hours before the early evening news bulletin, meaning they will only need to do an 8 hour day compared to the 12, which i expect they normally do on a Saturday. When Sportsround returns to London, i expect the lunchtime bulletin will relocate.

This is likely to be a permenant move as the national news studio is used now for sportsround between 1145-1200 on a Saturday. Turnaround is probably too tight for the next programme.

Has BBC News abandoned safe areas wrt aspect ratios now?
I was watching Breakfast on my widescreen this morning and noticed during an interview that Bill was on the extreme left of the picture, to the left of the clock with Sian in the middle and an interviewee on the screen on the extreme left. If you were watching in 4:3 you wouldn't have seen Bill and only half of the interviewee.
A mistake or a deliberate move since the relaunch?
