I saw this last night, and the one thing that struck me is how much more severe Moira was in those days - not only in her appearance, but in her delivery. She almost seemed a bit scary. Is it just me, or has she softened over the years?

That struck me too. Perhaps it's not just her that's softened but the whole news set-up. There seem to be many more smiles and welcomes now than there was.

As a wee child, I always used to be **** scared of Moria, she used to be "the crazy woman with a fro and dark eyes ahhhh " Laughing Surprised

Well she's always talked without moving her mouth. That takes skill. Maybe she's only learned recently how to do this in a less severe fashion.

Apparently the reason she's leaving Breakfast and going to weekends is so she can concentrate on becoming a ventriloquist during the week.

I wonder what type of send off the BBC are planning for Anna tomorrow. Will she have a long day, appearing on all the national news bulletins, plus Breakfast, similar to when Michael Fish retired from the Weather centre, or will she just get a quite send off. It would be nice to end the bulletin with a wide shot of the studio tomorrow, with the full closing title music, instead of the normal, "and thats it from the 1'oclock news this Thursday lunchtime, now on BBC1 its time to join our newsteams across the United Kingdom."

Yep, surely for one day they can finish the programme without a plug for N24 or "local news next" and just have Anna saying a short goodbye with a proper programme ending.

She is somewhat a national institution, it will be good to see her given a dignified send off into the TVC sunset. Surely they'll give her that.

glad to see bbc1 presenters such as George are going to be doing extra work - it's always bugged me that they appear to do so little for so much - i know there's behind the scenes work that they do as well but even so - Natasha is live on air for 2.5 hrs and Sian is on for approx 11 hrs - not value for money at all or fair to the other presenters.

Anna was almost crying at the end there. Can someone tell me if the other regions did what London did, and play there opening sting in silence, or was this just a mistake, on behalf of London.

I've noticed that on the BBC News website, the colour at the end of the navigation links have changed from orange to a dark Red.

Just watched it online. Shame there was no proper ending but a nice compilation of clips - enough title sequences to keep us junkies happy and the reference to "ITN" too (albeit with an ITV50 logo splattered in the corner!)

And nice touch from the Network CA as well specifically referring to Anna "presenting her last lunchtime news here on BBC One" I assume she'd have heard that?
