Huw was doing the five o'clock news today wasn't he? He must of gone home ill or something because Darren Jordon is doing the Ten.

Why was the 15.20 summary broadcast in 4:3? Regional news was in 16:9 as usual.

I'm so gald you said that. I thought I was imagining things.

Did anyone see Comedy Connections last night? It was on 'Allo 'Allo and showed Moira on the Six reading the story about Gorden Kay having an accident in 1990.

Here are a few caps:

Incidentally why are these programmes made and broadcast in 16:9 when clips such as this and the original comedy/drama programmes are nearly always in 4:3? Why not do the whole thing in 4:3 like the 50 years of BBC News programme/DVD a couple of years ago?

I saw this last night, and the one thing that struck me is how much more severe Moira was in those days - not only in her appearance, but in her delivery. She almost seemed a bit scary. Is it just me, or has she softened over the years?

Well she's always talked without moving her mouth. That takes skill. Maybe she's only learned recently how to do this in a less severe fashion.

That struck me too. Perhaps it's not just her that's softened but the whole news set-up. There seem to be many more smiles and welcomes now than there was.

And far too many smiles and welcomes for my liking. It's the news, not a variety act. It had gravity back then. It's now got as much gravity as an asteroid!

Absolutely.

It does not need to be journalists who read the news, it needs to be anchors. Moira was one of the greatest anchors of all time. Now she is just some kind of helper in an unneccesary position.

If you are announcing that one of the country's best loved comedy actors is on deaths door, you don't tend to do it with a cheery smile.
