With regard to the news "set" the whole setup looks dodgy, the screens, although an improvement are amazingly busy, something which IMO isn't entirely suitable for a news bulletin. I still can't see why the actual newsroom can be projected onto them, much like the china red and cream era did. I desk could also be moved around a little although space constraints are an issue. Personally, I'd get rid of the laminate flooring and the desk, it's always looked "dated", simply distracting.

Indeed. Compare these two, and you know which one looks better! Even if they were to project the old set's background on to the new set, it would look 100 times better.

I'd forgot just how striking that looked. I mean look at it! It really does look at its looking into the newsroom and it just works so well, compared with the current "attempt", It looks fake, tacky and frankly dodgy.

That shot of Huw is from after the bomb went off over the road, and all the windows along the front of the news centre were boarded up. They stuck acres of red felt over the hoardings, to brighten up the shot, and imposed fake mini screens onto the picture (on the right hand side).

And the shot of Anna isn't the current background, it's the one before isn't it?

The backdrop with red in it was used right until that set was withdrawn, so clearly they didn't use a live shot anymore.

It was never totally live anyway - one half of it was delayed by 15 mins so that it wasn't so obvious it was one shot reflected down the middle

Didn't they start using a pre-recorded loop in the end, after Moira Stuart was spotted descending the stairs in the background whilst she was presenting a bulletin?!

At least that's what I'd heard.

Was that not during the '80s Daytime Summaries, that the incident with Moira happened?

Surely that would be a reason *not* to use a pre-recorded loop?

Well, perhaps one which didn't have any BBC news anchors in the background.

It must have been

It must have been during the 80s, because I dont think Moria ever presented in N6 during the time either of the sets with the real newsroom backdrop was used.

It was during one of the 80s daytime updates. BTW, has anyone got a video of that - I know it's doubtful, but you never know! Very Happy

It's a capture from the behind the scenes section on the BBC News 50 DVD and then edited with my name on it.
