Now, I'm one of the most outspoken critics of Ms Kaplinsky's record on Breakfast and the direction she's taken the programme, but I have to say her "performance" last night on the six was a lot better than I was expecting.
Admittadly there was still "hype" about the situation and I'd love to see who authorised the press release, what an utterly silly thing to do! But that aside she took the programme and as a lead presenter was very competent.
With regard to the news "set" the whole setup looks dodgy, the screens, although an improvement are amazingly busy, something which IMO isn't entirely suitable for a news bulletin. I still can't see why the actual newsroom can be projected onto them, much like the china red and cream era did. I desk could also be moved around a little although space constraints are an issue. Personally, I'd get rid of the laminate flooring and the desk, it's always looked "dated", simply distracting.

I have to agree with your post Matrix, in all aspects. I really hate the current set. It is far too busy.

Natasha has been good on the Six - she is far more suited to deskbound news presentation, and did handle the reports well. I would vote for a permanent move for her to the Six.......................

I actually really like the desk - its just about the only part of the set I do like. Perhaps it's a little too small for the national, though.

My main problem with the rest of the set is that it's too "boxy" - its proportions are too square, which make it look like it's enclosed in a box. The old sets may not have been massive, but they looked bigger than the current one, because they were rounded and didn't have sharp corners. The desk's good, but it looks bad because it doesn't fit in it's square surroundings, and looks strange being against a flat background.

If the walls of the set were more rounded and less square, I think it might look quite good.

Yes, because Sian really is 2 foot 4. You've rubbled the biggest secret in TV News.

What, What? It's meant to be the other way round, remember?

I hope there is a change soon, if only a few minor ones.

Indeed. Compare these two, and you know which one looks better! Even if they were to project the old set's background on to the new set, it would look 100 times better.

Arrow Desk is too small
Arrow Studio space is badly used... the backing makes it look much smaller than it really is
Arrow Low ceiling adds nothing to the set
Arrow Projectors can be washed out, on screens as well
Arrow Unimaginitive camera angles
