Does anyone know what happened to George Eykyn? He was a BBC News correspondent for quite a while, and also had a stint presenting BBC World on Sunday mornings in 2002. I haven't seen or heard him for some time now.

He left a couple of years ago for a career outside broadcasting. A loss - he was a good broadcaster.

That is a shame. He was excellent as a correspondent, and I thought he was even better on BBC World News. The weekends were good on World then - Anita McNaught, Adrian Finighan, George Eykyn, Jane Dutton, Lucy Hockings, Ben Brown.

Weather from the weather centre tonight rather than in the national studio, oddly.

Also, when Sian was introducing David Sillito at Tate Britain she said 'Morning David' and it was 6.25PM not 6.25AM!!

There seems to have been change in the weather pres. I noticed that the National is now coming from the WC but also my local (Midlands Today) have altered the forecast (basically it now moves, abit)

Nice to see Jane Hill doing the 6 tonight. Very good job! Is this practice for next year maybe?

At the end of the Six tonight they plugged News 24 Tonight.

A full screen still from the end of News 24 titles then shrunk into the bottom left hand corner and became a BBC NEWS tower, and we saw what looked like a live shot of Chris Eakin and his co-preseneter chatting, which must of been a few mins before they went on-air at 7.

Also what seemed to be mocked up News 24 on-screen graphics appeared, which had the Jamie Oliver school dinners story on them, as Jane was explaining that the story was coming up on N24 Tonight.

All seemed a bit of a botch job tbh.

Also noticed that at the end of the one they were plugging News Online, with a demo of how to lauch the Video Player.

Saw the News 24 Tonight plug, looked rather good IMO and it would have taken a trained eye (or TV Forumer) to notice it was a mock. I suppose we'll see more plugs for N24 now BBC3 News is going. Mores the pity.

No, the current desperate six presenter currently hosts a "serious news stories and a lighter look at the days developing stories from the world of Sport, Business and Entertainment - setting you up for the day ahead" Breakfast, or for those who haven't seen what this has become its, "Good Morning with Kaplinsky".

Anyway are there still plans for the shake-up of the National bulletins, I seem to remember there been a comment or two about Geogre going back to his roots, Sophie off to "projects" and the Ten been changed.

I saw the same this lunchtime. I wondered what happened at first but I think it is a good idea - much better IMO than the old bar that said BBC News 24 and bbc.co.uk/news on that used to come up.

when you say the "end" of the six do you mean 6.28 or 6.58? if the latter please could someone cap it for those in scotland with the superior ending to the news hour.

They mean the 6.58 closing. Been in the Regions we get to see this marvel of audio and visual...Oh, how lucky we are.

Have to say the N24 plug at the end of the program does look quite good to be honest. Much better than the previous one!
