Notice that todays news at 1 with Darren Jordan is 're-using' the gill sans typeface. A mistake or is this going to be the norm from now on?

was it very crisp and clear or blurry and beige? generally an easy way to tell the difference (compare the Swiss location strap with the Gill live bug)

I think it was a mistake (probably due to computer failure) 'cos they were Swiss on the morning and afternoon summaries and there were no astons at all with the names of the stories before each report.

Yes, It sometimes happens. Not too recently it was still just on the Sunday afternoon updates.

Personally, It looks far better than the swiss font on the astons.

Anyway at the risk of starting another "relaunch" wildfire, when is the national getting an update, other than the new backdrop...

What happened to Darren Jordan yesterday? He did the mid-day update, didn't see the early eventing, but the late evening news was hosted by Jane Hill - anyone know why there were 2 presenters yesterday?

Jane Hill did the early evening bulletin, too.

This isn't really worthy of its own thread, so I may as well bung it in here. Does anyone know what happened to George Eykyn? He was a BBC News correspondent for quite a while, and also had a stint presenting BBC World on Sunday mornings in 2002. I haven't seen or heard him for some time now.

Oh. Did Darren do a stint on News 24 in the afternoon? Maybe he was ill, it just seems strange that he did one 5 min update.

Or, perhaps Jane couldn't make the morning update and Darren was asked to step in.

George Ekyn................completely forgot about him. He used to strike me as the modern day version of Peter Woods, given his frame and colouring.

For those of you scratching your heads, ask your mother or grandmother who Peter Woods was...................he was just great!!

He left a couple of years ago for a career outside broadcasting. A loss - he was a good broadcaster.
