Are you sure? There's been no announcement from the BBC Press Office. It says so on Jane's Wikipedia page but I wouldn't class that as a reliable source.
No-one has been appointed as yet. One can only presume that there trying people out for the role seeing as Kate and Bill were both on last week....

Just came across the fact that Jane Hill is confirmed as the second presenter of the One.

Yes, very surprising to see Bill presenting the One O'Clock News on Friday! He was quite good IMO.

A think a point, if one can be made, surely falls upon the presenter adaptation in style. With regard to Bill, he's usually associated with a long-running, almost magazine style programme, rather than a fixed National News bulletin. I also feel the change from 'rolling news' to pre-scripted news is also something highlighted.
But, by the same token, as a presenter on the BBC they should be more than able to adapt styles to suit a prescribed bulletin.

Surely the very fact that they're presenting terrestrial news means that they are by all means capable? Bill is extremely capable of presenting a bulletin on his own, surely?!

Agreed - it was a surprise to see Bill doing the One, and although I've always liked Bill I was slightly surprised at just how good he was on the bulletin. Normally I've always thought him much better on Breakfast than on the Six. He was better than Sophie, Jane or Jon IMO.
And jamej, I don't remember him doing weekend or bank holiday bulletins before either.

He's only done a couple of weekend/Bank Holiday bulletins, usually at lunchtime when another presenter has been on later in the day. It's not a regular occurance.

Well just to note that Bill is on his own again on Xmas Day for breakfast
