Can't be a mistake. David Braine did his own National forecast for whatever reason. Then handed back to the presenter for a proper close.

No other regions seemed to do this, so I'm not sure why Spotlight did. Seems strange considering that David was talking about frost in Aberdeenshire when that really isn't going to affect 99.9% of its viewers.

I didn’t actually see the National part of the Ten, i’d assumed they’d moved the national weather to before the regional news like on the One and Six?

But you are saying they’ve axed it altogether. I think the Beeb have bitten off more that they can chew in that case, you can mess around with many things, but mess about with the weather...

There was a national forecast as normal with Sarah Keith-Lucas, just Spotlight didn't take it. Can't see them getting away with that for very long otherwise surely every region would be doing it.

They'll probably get away with it, because it started years ago with Northern Ireland dropping the national forecast after the Ten and embedding it within their own forecast instead. Then Wales and Scotland started doing it too. It's a terrible idea - zooming out to see a brief summary of the national picture is not really a substitute for a network forecaster giving a detailed overview, in what, for most viewers, is the last forecast of the night after the main evening news.

Look North Leeds did it tonight too.

But surely a localized forecast is more relevant to the average viewer than a national one?

STV still dump the ITV National Weather forecast after News at Ten as well don't they?

Look North didn’t take it either, which is where the confusion was, Paul Hudson did a lengthy forecast also including a national summary

Just looking on iPlayer, Look North was 8:30, with other regions just 7:00 in length

Maybe then the regions have a choice, or this is an experiment in two regions to see and compare how well the two options work ?

I must admit the overlap of information between the two forecasts can look a little silly at times, but people
still need to know what the weather is going to be if they're travelling the following day 'out of region'. Spotlight doing NE Scotland's forecast is a bit OTT, unless there's a fleet of A380s today flying from Bristol to Aberdeen, but there's some mileage in giving a summary of adjacent the regions' weather (London's on S/SE/E for instance, for the commuters)

Apparently a few regions are piloting a combined regional+national forecast after the regional news, rather than the split regional+national approach with two presenters currently used. The pilot is approved and not them going rogue.

Yeah I was just posting about this in the other thread, some strange choices made there, IMO.
