Not going to lie, it looks incredible. Shows how cr*p the current sets are!

It is an equal to Sky's rather impressive set. BBC News Channel does look like a poor relation and it's a shame it can't come from a larger studio with a set like this.

And as you say gregmc it does show how ordinary the current sets are.

Erm - it is the UK's largest single purpose-built TV studio (still?) with more LED in it than Eurovision had a few years ago - it should look bloomin' good...

(Yes - the film stage conversions and the 2-in-1 Fountain Studios are bigger)

As big as TVC1 is I find it weird in that when it has a big set it has a small audience and when it has a large audience it has a smaller set. It doesn't have that frisson that Studio 1 in the old LWT building has with its 600 plus audience.

(Yes I know it's the London Studios now but I see that building and I hear Peter Lewis's voice telling me welcome to LWT).

TVC1 is a great space and they can do some stunning sets in there.

Not too sure about some of the fake shots of the newsroom, but on the whole it looks superb and kinds of bring the energy of the newsroom to the screen. Obviously such a large studio for the news on a permanent basic would be unlikely, but on a smaller scale it could work just as well.

I've never been a fan of the current set since they just changed it to predominantly a newsroom view - if that's how they're going to use the screens they might as well have a real newsroom view behind the desk and just have a large screen to the side.

Also worth nothing that presenters such as Louise Minchin and Joanna Gosling were in today as usual

That's not unusual for a Bank Holiday is it? I seem to recall Joanna doing the Five on a Bank Holiday once for example (back when they kept the Five single-anchored on a Bank Holiday)

I posted this in the General Election thread. This is BBC Resources talking about the Election coverage in Studio 1.

The set did look amazing - if only it could come from there permanently.

This should really be in the presenter topic, but I was making the point that if others were working their usual shifts on an (important) bank holiday, it seemed unlikely Ellie Crisell wouldn't 'just because'.

Personally one of the best bits of it was having a closing - clearly we'll never get anything that impressive from N6 and TC7 but a nice, simple close would improve the bulletins! They just seem to stop almost these days without actually ending - it worked before the big studio swaps because both the Six and Ten recapped the headlines for BBC 1 viewers after regional news - since this was dropped, why couldn't we have a weekend-style close?

I see no real reason for not having a close but I would bet some management would argue people are more likely to turn over during a close and less likely if they go straight to the regions. However, considering this is the BBC, they should not be justifying decisions because of ratings.

Indeed, and according to their methodology, ITV and C4 News shouldn't have any viewers left!

I can understand if it was a 20-second close, followed by two adverts and then a continuity slide how that would make sense, but are people really likely to move in the 20-second close, having just been told it's on its way? (I'm not doubting either of you, just the 'logic' behind it.
