Now the desk appears to fill most the studio - no doubt IMO the old layout made better use of the space.

The old N6 could accommodate a single Presenter standing for Big Screens, or a Weather Presenter and at the desk 2 Presenters and a Guest each side, or a maximum of 1 + 2.

The New N6 is now capable of standing Big Screens, standing 1 + 3 if needed, a Weather Presenter and has a desk that can seat a 1 + 4 (Dateline) and comfortably 2 Presenters and 2 Guests (either side).

I'd call that making better use of the space!

don't forget when Breakfast first came from N6 they used the desk AND the red sofa - that was good use of the space.

Interesting on the 10, a live stand up report from the left hand wall (as from the camera view), back to George who threw to Nick Robinson at Westminster. Unusually this was a straight cut from the studio to the OB.

Presumably the live report using the wall meant that the usual turning to face the OB on the wall shot couldn't be done, but not even a DVE effect with both studio and OB on it.

What changes have the made to the 8pm news for thick people then? Has the swirling red been replaced with swirling white?

Both of those screens actually look a lot better than the proper titles - especially the regional one.

Thanks. That looks surprisingly nice actually - and even an improvement on what went before.

Those look lovely, for the sake of continuity, could they possibly adopt this style on daytime updates?

I think the reason they look lovely is due to the lack of white. If the main titles were more zoomed into the orange they'd probably look better. It's the white that ruins the whole look for me.

I'm actually pretty happy with this new look. I've given it a few days to bed in, and I reckon it's not bad.

There's a couple of things though:

I think this was a missed opportunity to incorporate a seated area along the lines of the one that is used for Newsnight Review into the NC studio - just having the desk in there limits things a bit, IMO, when you think that the old studio had that area that worked for Sport/Weather but also stuff like Film 24.

I don't like that the Six has a different desk, layout etc. when so much has been done to standardise the other bulletins. I'd've wanted to find a way for it to come from the same studio. I know there's complications with rehearsals and everything, but perhaps the scheduling would be better served by having programmes before each of the main bulletins of the day, bringing all of the NC content into the one studio.

And the regions have a "glow" of their colours Smile

I really think that the number 1, 6 and 10 should be moved out of the globe and into the white space beside it, where names like BBC World News America and BBC Newsline etc now sit.
