Well that went well didn't it!
First on BBC one we got to see the end of the countdown
Then we got to see the news channel presenter walking off
Then we failed to see some video clips
Then the BBC DOG and clock appeared
Then when Jane has given up waiting for direction and moved on to the next headline we got the headline thunderclap mid sentence!
Did I miss anything!?!?!
Poor Jane, did well to hold that together!

Is there any reason why they use the NC ticker, clock etc on BBC One overnight, but not on the 'daytime(for want of a better word!)' simulcasts?
ISTR when they had the Andrew Marr scheduling foul up a few months ago, they had the ticker & clock on BBC One too on the replacement NC output too.
Why do they only use the separate feed/mixer during the 'daylight' hours scheduled BBC One bulletins & not on the overnights?

Doesn't fit with the image of the channel to have a ticker on a General Channel, ITV News, Ch4 and Five don't. Overnight it's a straight feed from the News Channel that's transmitted, at 6am this is replaced by the split operation, Breakfast on BBC One is tickerless, whereas Breakfast on BBC News has the ticker showing.

Usually, the astons are generated from the same piece of kit which generates the ticker, and is downstream of the main studio mixer.
For N6 based bulletins which are on BBC1, astons are generated by a second piece of equipment and are fed through the mixer, so that BBC1 can pick up a feed which contains the astons, but not the ticker.
It may well be that this extra complexity can only be done during the day when there are more people in the gallery than there would be for overnights.

The problem with this is that a fake live background of that size will always give itself away as being false when the camera moves, because the perspective and depth of field won't change. Angled shots can look awkward as well.
Could they somehow put a love shot of one of the newsrooms they have and use behind?

The clock and ticker appear on BBC One when they "join the BBC News Channel", such as overnight, or when the BBC News Channel is used as a sustaining service (in the case of the missing Andrew Marr show). In other words when BBC One joins the channel, and shows what they are showing (which is not content commissioned specifically for BBC One)
The One, Six and Ten O'Clock news are different - they are bulletins made specifically for BBC One, that are also carried on the News Channel, and sometimes come from the News Channel studio for reasons of efficiency these days. However they are specially made for BBC One, as standalone programmes, and are not just a 30 minute chunk of the News Channel. As such their presentation and branding is specific for BBC One - and clocks and tickers are not part of the presentation package for mainstream standalone news programmes.
The BBC One audience shouldn't really be able to tell that the One, Six and Ten are anything but standalone programmes...

That made me laugh! I feel so sorry for Jane though.
Thing is they are working on an even more stripped down approach than normal and are still having problems with the Simulcasts!

I have seem to lost track of the changes made, couldn't they have waited til Monday 4th January 2010.
