Interesting. After the first two recession reports on the Six O'Clock News, there was a short hand to the regions for a regional recession opt-out, before the rest of the days news.

Quite clever IMO...worked well...even Scotland managed not to b****r...cut back in time!

I'm sure they've done this before on the six. Might have been the recession as well.

Indeed, I think this is the third (possibly fourth...) time such an opt has occurred within the Six. There's been at least one on the recession which the BBC called Downturn day, one on "The Changing Face of Britain" and this one, which was to have been called "Taking the Pulse" when a lot of analysts were predicting some growth in GDP, but was hasilty renamed "UK Recession" when the figures proved otherwise. All Nations and Regions did a 2'30" opt on the subject, but not the usual 15" Halfway Headlines opt. Jersey and Oxford also opted for this, not sure about Cambridge though.

Think Norwich opted pan-regionally.

It would make sense for Norwich to opt pan regionally as Cambridge don't usually opt for the 1800 or 1815 headlines sequences or at the start of the 1830 Look East. Oxford do a half hour on a Friday, so if Southampton had opted pan-regionally for this special, it'd be the only time Sally Taylor would have been seen by Oxford's viewers!

Isn't the top headline sequence at 1830 a sub-opt - albeit to a headline sequence recorded by the Norwich presenters?

ISTR that Stewart and Suzie read a different headline sequence for the west (including a sub-opt story sometimes?) which is pre-recorded in Cambridge and played out when Norwich play out their headline pre-rec, with Cambridge opting-back to the Norwich studio after the titles - or have things changed?

Your logic holds though - Stewart and Suzie are still the "main" presenters of the show in both regions - and almost always lead the show boths sides of the region, with the Close Up sub-opt coming after a couple of pan-regional stories. The Close Up presenter in Cambridge is a secondary figure in comparison.

Did anyone see what the News Channel outputted?

Business news, mainly an interview with a city banker.

If the Ten requires half an hour to prepare, kicking out the NC to do so, how come the One doesn't do the same, as they're in the same predicament?

(The Six being in TC7 normally!)

As they're not in the same predicament, they don't need half hour to prepare.

As they're not in the same predicament, they don't need half hour to prepare.

The One & the Ten are both in N6 though, but the One does not appear to pre prepare to the extent of the Ten. Why?

Not sure if this might have anything to do with it but the 6 and 10 are done by a separate editiorial team. The 1 O'Clock is run by the News Channel (I think - correct me if I'm wrong!)

The Six and Ten O'Clock News are more high profile programmes which often contain complex sequences that need to be rehearsed before TX. The One O'Clock News is little more than half an hour of the BBC News Channel albeit without the breaking news interruptions.

The One O'clock News is a daytime bulletin - produced by the News Channel editorial team. Therefore (despite it having the best audience, in terms of share, of all BBC News bulletins) it's probably not as highly regarded as the Six and Ten bulletins.

In truth - I suspect the Six and Ten don't really need that much rehearsal - but network journalists tend to be slightly precious buggers and think they need it.
