It's called, "theatre" is the 6 not supposed to recruit a younger audience to news? This will help, it's just a bit of harmless fun towards the end of the bulletin. Lighten up!
If it was a minute at the end of the bulletin then it might have been acceptable in a programme lasting 28:25 to feature it at 23:35 and run it for over two minutes 'simply' isn't right. (Timings checked with the iPlayer version)

I think the main point is a supposedly unbiased news programme plugs its own show. I wouldn't mind if the X Factor got the same treatment...

They did do reports on X Factor and BGT last year though, mostly on Breakfast, but also on the main bulletins before the final. I would prefer it if they kept reports of this sort to an absolute minimum, and thankfully I don't think the Strictly Come Dancing report made it to the Ten (I don't recall seeing it anyway). I think actually that the editorial differences between the Six and Ten have been widening lately with the Six becoming more dumbed down - I recall last year one of the editors suggesting that the Russia-Georgia conflict wasn't a natural story for the Six, which is a little concerning, though they did cover it in the end.
George, a little smirk or a smile wouldn't go amiss on the Six occasionally.
Please.
Thank you.
I like the fact that he's not grinning every five minutes. He takes his job seriously. The way Mark Austin grins at the start of practically every bulletin is completely inappropriate. Personally, I think George (and Huw) is one of the best news broadcasters the BBC has. He has tonnes of on-screen authority.

I agree completely. The happy-clappy Mark Austin even flashes his widest grin when the top story is another 4 deaths in Afghanistan, and it looks not only cheap, but very disrespectful. Do you see Jon Snow grinning every five minutes?
