I had completely forgotten all about this cheap backdrop rustled-up by BBC News for their BBC 2 bulletins in the eighties. I always thought it looked hideously cheap (it's BBC 1 big brother wasn't much better admittedly). Even more unusual is the fact that the news is presented by Joan Bakewell. I don't recall her being a BBC Newsreader.

Wonder why they felt the need to do the news twice, once without subtitles and once with?

Many thanks to the original poster of these excellent clips.

Which of course is TV Ark... I really wish people would stop stealing their clips...

Interesting to see during the introduction for Strictly Come Dancing report the lights in the background were flashing.

Is this really newsworthy? At first I thought it was the BBC plugging it own show as usual, but then I saw them reporting it on Five news as well. Rolling Eyes

Beyond a joke, really is. Imagine the complaints people would make if ITV something in a similar vain. This is shameless really is.

Won't bother quoting but I was astounded to see that too.

It's called, "theatre" is the 6 not supposed to recruit a younger audience to news? This will help, it's just a bit of harmless fun towards the end of the bulletin. Lighten up! Cool

If ITV News done ANYTHING remotely like that, everyone on here would say it's the tackiest thing to do!

I imagine most people under 40 watch The X Factor, Strictly just isn't a 'cool' programme.
