Is it just me or is the opening shot after the titles now different? It now seems to cross the studio including the desk

On the 10? I noticed that last night too. I thought it looked better.

I think it looks better too.

Yeah on the 10-I think it's an improvement aswell. Only been done with George this week though, could it been at his request perhaps? Or maybe the new editor?

Editor is probably more likely. I can't see George caring too much to be honest.

Then neither is probably the answer.

Could it not be possible a deputy/ assistant editor is on tonight because of holiday cover?

Do you think it could be the Studio Directors being creative and evolving the top of the programme to make it look better....

Well it wouldn't be the first time that they have changed the opening sequence after the titles, since the relaunch last year.

The first video, is the original opening sequence and the second shows the version used up until this week.

The new version seem to have combined the two and IMO looks a lot better.

I'm sure people living in Northern Ireland wouldn't really mind being referred to as British.

I think you'll find quite a few people in Northern Ireland who mind being called British. About 49% of the population actually.

I had completely forgotten all about this cheap backdrop rustled-up by BBC News for their BBC 2 bulletins in the eighties. I always thought it looked hideously cheap (it's BBC 1 big brother wasn't much better admittedly). Even more unusual is the fact that the news is presented by Joan Bakewell. I don't recall her being a BBC Newsreader.

And here's the 8pm summary, which carried Newsnight branding. Does anyone know who the newscaster is here?

Many thanks to the original poster of these excellent clips.

More than likely - I simply pointed out the fact that it's the summer and presumably several members of the crew will be on holiday/ missing, and someone had suggested it could be the editor.
