Couldn't Scotland have a separate, full length national news, if they wanted? I know Scotland has had separate bulletins before, such as New Years Eve.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but despite the main evening news being shown at 7pm tonight, it is still being billed as the BBC News at Six (at least on Sky's EPG).

Freeview's EPG and BBC iPlayer are showing thr same error, so no doubt Virgin is too. They've done this before on Bank Holidays and it looks rather sloppy from an EPG point of view. IIRC, they don't actually use the title sequence for the Six, just the standard one used for weekend bulletins and NC TOTHs.

Indeed it is. I think James was perhaps thinking of the August Bank Holiday which falls at the beginning of the month in Scotland and the end of the month in England, Wales & NI.

Ah... Embarassed

Sorry 'bout that, guys!

I did check some sources just to check if I was right, but obviously didn't check the right ones!

I think I'd like more Bank Holidays! Laughing

I notice they've changed the "quarter past" sting (on the 6 at least). Don't understand why they've done that.

It was different at one too.

I was incredibly torn as to whether this really is a request or not, but I decided to pop it in here, because this is probably the busiest of all the BBC News threads...

Does anyone know if this is a bona fide David Lowe creation? If so, I'm surprised that I've never heard it before. It's quite fabulous.

Yes it is, I believe it was used for the budget coverage.

This is true, another random fact is that it combines Lowes original concept he presented to the BBC with the 'pips' theme. He even played extracts of his original concept with Janice Long on BBC WM.

A 'Scottish Six' was muted for a while before being canned. You just can't justify spending huge amounts of license-fee payers money for a region with such a small population.
