Well that didnt go to plan, almost all of the VTs failed during the headlines on the One, then no titles or regional opt and straight into the top story, looking into the wrong camera. Sad

Indeed, not a perfect start, but better than going off the end of the runway...(as one of their reports demonstrated)

So there was a <1 second opt after all. Did all regions do that?

From the News Channel version on the iplayer looks like they couldn't do the NC opt - perhaps for the same reason that they couldn't switch cameras at first? Guess they might then have cancelled the regions opting out to save an uncomfortable moment for NC viewers?

I always wonder how you could read to the wrong camera as I was led to believe there is a red light on all cameras that comes on when that one is live. I can understand looking at the wrong camera but not to continue reading to it - surely you realise you're at the wrong one and quickly glance around for the right one.

As I understand there is indeed a light on top of the camera, however Sophie may have been expecting the gallery team to change to the usual opening camera after a second or so. There is the risk that if she quickly changed back to a the original camera the gallery may have switched cameras at the same time, causing further problems.

I think the sports/entertainment headlines which go out on the NC are prerecorded - there's no reason the main presenter couldn't have the script to read out live, other than the fact that the VT usually works...

incidentally, the output of N6/TC7 is now the network sustaining feed during the main programme - so if a region can't opt during the headline sequence, they'll see the sport/entertainment heads rather than MHS.

Well - hats off to Fiona. At last a BBC newsreader pronounced the word "controversy" correctly.

The hospital based analogy on the 10 went on a bit don't you think, and was a bit daft

Robert Peston continues to be annoying as well

Were they illustrating the meaning of "cash injection" with blood being pumped out of a medical syringe by any chance?

That's quite shocking - putting 9/11 next to John Sergeant. I wouldn't be surprised if there are complaints about that.
