Has anyone else got that feeling that the News will be on BBC2? They're showing Murray's game on BBC1, it's not even started yet and I can see the BBC doing what they did with Henman.

No, I think the news will still be on BBC One. Wimbledon finishes on BBC One at 6pm, and starts on BBC Two at 5.50pm, so there is a sufficient overlap for viewers to change over without missing any of the action. I would be surprised if the news was on BBC Two.

Well, it certainly isn't, and certainly never will be..

The Six O'Clock News has moved to BBC Two in the past during Wimbledon. However, it's usually during the more important matches towards the end of the tournament.

I don't ever remember that happening, although I'm not doubting your word, just my memory Wink

Back in the day when analogue was the only service I'm sure it was quite acceptable to run the Six and the following regional news programmes on BBC Two. However, these days it would only give them a possible 30 minute extension on BBC One before they were in danger of losing the English regional opts.

I suppose if we had a Brit in the semi-final and the match was at a crucial stage I'm sure they would get away with a general "England Today" type replacement on BBC Two (similar to the old "UK Today"). I imagine they'd do everything they could to keep the tennis going on BBC One until completion.

I'm sure it would be easier just to run the regional news in a shorter bulletin at 7 or 7:30pm on BBC One.

Thave have switched it to Two on several occasions, leading to both digital opts disappearing, and some of the smaller regions like Cambridge not being able to opt on analogue BBC Two

As has been mentioned the news has definitely been on BBC Two before because of Wimbledon, normally because of Henman. However, regional opts are limited because of the lack of capabilities; ISTR that only the major regions opted-out.

It is a rare occurrence anyway.

I remember it being moved to BBC Two back in the days of UK Today when the BBC English regions weren't available on DSat, and the national regions on BBC One were encrypted outside their areas.

Everyone could, however, watch BBC Two Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, so it was a rare novelty to be able to watch Reporting Scotland, Wales Today or Newsline from England.

It has happened as recently as 2004, but I think that was the last time the Six switched to 2. As previous posters have said, no English Region can opt on Digital BBC Two and some cannot opt on analogue any more either (Oxford, Cambridge, Channel Islands have never been able to opt on two.) I think some of the newer sites like Hull cannot opt on two either. Older centres can still opt on two, but many haven't in years.
