No, there are no current plans for a BBC News HD Channel.

correct

I think the NC will be HD if it's on BBC One HD output (not the NC itself), specifically overnight.

also correct

To think about it, I have not even heard of N24's plans to go HD. And I think that means we won't see N24-HD anytime soon. How awkward considering its overseas counterpart is gradually rolling-out HD. But is it safe to assume that they are using HD cameras in studio E and producing (but not necessarily transmitting) its output in HD?

Yes. The studio and graphics will all be HD, as is the infrastructure supporting it. I think a fair chunk of the newsgathering operation is still SD though - ie the cameras, satellite trucks, and various plug-in points across London. The other sticking point is the transmission chain, which is SD. It can obviously be upgraded, but that would require more capacity on DTT (which is limited) and DSAT (which isn't cheap).

What has it got to do with bloody Channel 4?

BBC News HD must be on the agenda though for some date (even if it is years from now)? So presumably there is some planning going into, or is it really just not being thought of at the moment?

Yes, but I as I said above, space needs to be found on satellite and DTT. It'll probably happen at some point in the future, but I'd have thought it's some way off.

I imagine it won't happen until most channels decide to just go HD, and it becomes the norm (like the Colour TV revolution!)

I think the online stream will be HD, as the stream for watching the Pope coverage without commentary featured the new graphics and was in HD.

No joy, I'm afraid - the web streaming of the channel isn't getting a upgrade just yet.

Hi bro, seems to be you're updating us about it very well. Am a bit afraid to ask if you're a BBC insider?
