There are certainly at least two tracks seen in that picture. The first track is the one with the camera closest to the actual newsroom, with the second one directly in front of the desk - it's a lot closer than the first, so I doub they'll have any problems with camera angles.

As someone mentioned earlier, those two screens with a grey box next to them look quite interesting. The two screens are the kind of thing that are in Studio C, behind the plasmas where the London backdrop stops, but the windows in that studio continue around, so they shouldn't need that?

They are indeed - but it's just indicative of the TV screens which will go in their place. Given how empty the newsroom looks in that photo, I'd imagine it was taken a little while ago, so they've probably installed them by now.

Still strange that they're doing something like that so late in the process, the photo was taken quite recently. I'm also not sure how they'd achieve it while still maintaining access.

Whats going to the right of the small screens in the centre of the picture? Seems like 2½ screens, them a bit grey box. What's that?

More likely just two screens and a small lightbox, assumedly there to maximise the sets usability with regards to fitting numerous guests in. No longer having the ability to make the main screens 'disappear' with smart glass may also have forced changes to the angles they'll be using for guests.

Allo allo, what have we here?

Really reminds me of the BBC WN Studio C, and the desk is quite small... will they still do Dateline over there?

It's also quite interesting to note that the camera does track behind the rectangular screen, so if it isn't Smartglass, during swooping shot, it will surely obscure the view?

Well obviously they wouldn't put that to air, just as they don't air cameras rotating around or focusing. It extends beyond the screen to facilitate a shot behind the presenter towards the videowall, like in the BBC World studio.

Quite.

Not sure I follow the OPs logic at all.

If you assume that the studio was designed for tracking cameras, to get certain shots, and that the set was originally designed with smart glass, but then the smart glass was replaced with a plasma or LCD screen, you wouldn't expect the track to be ripped up, or the shots required to change would you?

Confused Confused

The track isn't there purely to allow on-shot moves after all, it's to allow the cameras to move (off-shot) to specific positions to get decent eyelines etc. Previously, News had to get the floor managers (or in some cases a single camera operator) to move the cameras between positions to get the shots they needed. Now the track allows them to do this remotely without the cost and safety issues around robotic cameras (as News used in N2 on the 6th floor until the late 90s)

The Desk looks slightly different to the one in Studio C it looks like it has a smaller core and may light up red.

Yes, the desk looks like the one from the Olympic studio or a cleaner, newer one of the old TC7 desk.

On that subject, they moved away from the oval desks to the type seen in the Sports and Olmypic studios and the MT studio, then a few months later cahnge the design altogether, why?

I wouldn't read anything into sizes and shapes from a 360 degree panoramic photograph. The perspective is shot to pieces!

It does look a lot like Studio C with the projected skyline replaced by the actual news room.
I wonder if this studio is going to be as susceptible to 'Weekend maintenance' breaks as N8 used to be and if so what is the back up plan.

What I won't be used to is to see 'nationals' presented with the studio actually in front of a newsroom. It will be interesting to see whether they fit since I would usually picture a different backdrop associated with news bulletins in flagship channels of networks.

Is the desk in the photo above color red? Or it's the same as WN who got a blue one?
