Regarding the BBC Two morning news hour, I don't think the 11am half hour of BBC News Channel output works very well. I know they are doing it to save cash on daytime programming, but it's so obvious it's just the NC on BBC Two. Post-DSO, it can't really be a sustainable solution for long.

I got the impression from the BBC Two intro on Monday morning that it was being positioned as a self-contained half hour of news on BBC Two, but this will rarely be the case when simulcasting a rolling news channel. Already this week there has been some breaking news about the Royal baby during the 11am half hour, and today there is an obviously signficant breaking news story, so much so the 'programme' has moved to BBC One.

Personally, I feel that shoving half an hour of BBC News Channel output on BBC Two when it is not a balanced mix of news is doing their viewers a disservice, likewise to try and constrain a rolling news channel to ‘force' their 11:00 to 11:30am output to be a deliberate mix of news stories for a BBC Two audience would also be wrong. Their focus may quite rightly need to be on a breaking/developing story at that time of day.

It just feels like a lose/lose situation to me, to be honest. BBC World News however, is genuine breath of fresh air due to it's wider news agenda, and obviously not already available to UK viewers elsewhere on their set top box.

Would it not be better to move Daily Politics to 11-12pm and show GMT between 12 and 1pm. I know it wouldn't work on Wednesday due to PMQ.

Whether it's for 30 or 60 minutes, I'd rather BBC World News on BBC2 was at 11am, then it can air on Wednesdays when parliament is in session

Utter nonsense and the audience couldn't give a fcuk about a 'self contained' programme.

Maybe you could elaborate and share some of your audience knowledge with me and the rest of the forum? I struggle to see how there was audience demand today for simulcast coverage of the helicopter crash on both BBC One and BBC News Channel at 11am.

Great point scottistv, your post makes sense. Morning hours are so filled with breaking news, this will rarely be a proper news bulletin.

I doubt breaking news simulcast's on BBC1 are done based solely on audience demand, but rather the news's importance (a subjective decision of course)

Though not everywhere - several regions have local programming in the 1930 slot.

The Programmes page says: EXCEPT NORTH EAST & CUMBRIA, NORTHERN IRELAND, NORTHERN IRELAND HD, OXFORDSHIRE, SCOTLAND, SCOTLAND HD, SOUTH, WALES, YORKSHIRE

Indeed

Same reports that were shown on the Six mixed in with some 'weather analysis' from the duty forecaster no doubt.

This will update soon, sometimes it takes a little while for late changes to make their way to all of the various regional schedules, it's due to be networked across all the nations and regions (including BBC South, which was due to have a regional documentary opt at that time).

Incidentally, there will be a regional news opt during this programme.

Is there any need? This is ridiculous. We are the only country that over dramatises events or rather non events like today's snow. Heathrow hasn't ground to a halt, there have been no major incidents, just a lot of snow.
