Am I right in thinking the Jib camera is no longer in TC7 and been taken to NBH? Just wondered as yesterday on the 6 we didn't get the stand up on the other side of the studio but today we did and the camera panned and zoomed in. Just wondering of this was done with a normal Ped camera or whether I'm wrong and the Jib is still in TC7?

I would have thought it was a new jib in Broadcasting House. I'm sure I've seen it used on the 6 since they've moved.

Perhaps one of our insiders could confirm.

Media Boy said that the jib was used for the last time on the Six on Friday. It didn't look like the jib camera was used to me but I may be wrong.

That's what I thought that someone said the Jib had gone. The shot tonight didn't seem to sweep in the same way but still looked pretty neat which made me wonder.

I would imagine it's more likely that the jib op has gone to BH than the actual jib.

Yep - far more likely. I suspect that when the Six and Newsnight were in the same studio they shared the same crew. Now they can't.

Yes - it's a BBC area and the same one used for The One Show pilot series.

Very much doubt it. The One Show pilot series in Birmingham came from a temporary structure built on the steps at the back of The Mailbox. The structure effectively 'levelled off' the steps (and also required some street furniture to be removed) It was almost directly in front of the main doors at the back, and quite close to the main entrance to the BBC offices within the Mailbox (where The One Show had production space).

Because the Mailbox only had one full-function gallery, which was on-air directly before The One Show with Midlands Today, a Visions OB truck was parked in a loading bay a few levels below the temporary studio to provide production facilities, but the Mailbox was able to provide phones, incoming and outgoing vision circuits, BBC IT etc. to the truck (But no make-up, dressing rooms or green room - so rooms in the Ramada hotel were used instead...)

Once the 4 weeks of pilots were over, the studio was dismantled and removed.

Indeed!

In fairness, a quick slide was needed for the breaking story.

But the thing is, a Google search will find you a better quality BBC image within the first 10 listings.

Funny how they always managed to have a decent quality slide of a correspondent years ago when broadcasters cared more about quality and less about speed. If they were that desperate to get the story to air they probably should have just used a generic graphic without a photo, as that just looked horrendous.

You would think they would have editors slides pre made.

In addition there was a technical failure with a key system for the Six today so all clips were being played out manually - and as ever at TVC that involved a dodgy mouse.

In the end it was surely more important to have Nick on air with not the best picture than not at all.
