Yes - it's a BBC area and the same one used for The One Show pilot series. They used to use it for the Sunday Politics/Politics Show regional inserts, and still use it when the MT studio is out of action too. It's been used for other bits over the years too like this Inside Out special:
It's not the same space AIUI but is directly beneath the area where the pilot One Show came from. IIRC The One Show built a temporary studio space overlooking the canal basin on the roof of the area BBC Midlands have used for The Politics Show. The Politics area is at the end of the Birmingham newsroom and has basic scaffolding lighting rig driven from the Birmingham Gallery. I believe it used to have two cameras though additional ones could be wheeled down from the TV Studio if required. Birmingham now do their Sunday Politics in the studio so that second presentation area is now presumably just a spare place from which to present Midlands Today if they need to.
Was that the original One Show space that they were using this morning? Can't remember for sure, but positively convinced it was.
Also, do the BBC own the space? Where is it exactly in relation to the Mailbox?
