The confusion might be that when News 24 was based in N8 that gallery had the same functionality as the N6 network switcher. I've seen that referred to as "the emergency mixer" in posts by insiders in various places over the years.

But that still wouldn't have let N8 originate two live programmes at the same time.

Since when did N8 have two full vision mixers? Worzel's post above is the first I've ever seen mentioning it.

It does have 2 vision mixers, I dont think the second one is a full size mixer mind you. Its also been mentioned before - as thats how World can continue to broadcast VT programmes while the News channel is coming from N8 at 21:30.

It does not have 2 vision mixers.

It has a Presentation suite at Red Bee - which plays the back half recorded programmes, and that's how it deals with the channel going in at 2130.

N6 has a NETWORK SWITCHER - which allows NET 24 - The News Channel Distribution chain - to be fed via a number of simple sources and different gallerys.
This is what is used to 'switch' N6 out of cuircuit to N8 to allow the Ten rehearsal.

Thanks for clarifying this Media Boy! Apologies everyone for my misinformation. Embarassed

Noticed a new aston design in use this morning on the new bulletins inserted into the Andrew Marr show. Something of a resfresh, or a harbinger of what is to come?

They've been using them since Marr began in Studio B 4 weeks ago. They are also used for the bulletins on the Sunday Politics.

I did chuckle at Andrew Marr's introduction: stood by the light blue moped outside the Mailbox, the inference being that he'd used it to travel to Birmingham! Laughing

Thanks Stuart, I hadn't noticed them before then and I couldn't find a mention of them, so thought about bringing it up.

That was a good opening shot of Marr! Although of course you were forever playing the game of spotting the members of the public who had a 'Hi Mum' moment.

Surprised Marr's moped didnt get nicked or dumped in the canal! LOL

Was that the original One Show space that they were using this morning? Can't remember for sure, but positively convinced it was.

Also, do the BBC own the space? Where is it exactly in relation to the Mailbox?

Yes - it's a BBC area and the same one used for The One Show pilot series. They used to use it for the Sunday Politics/Politics Show regional inserts, and still use it when the MT studio is out of action too. It's been used for other bits over the years too like this Inside Out special:

A slightly different handover to the weather than usual:

I wonder if they doing what Breakfast did - trying out some different camera shots before they end up in a different studio?

What was the apology that George made at the end of the Six this evening?

He'd said Abu Hamza instead of Abu Qatada earlier in the programme. He did say "we" so not sure whether it was a mistake on the autocue or whether he misread it.

Same view, different place. The One Show was a prefab on the canal side:

Aconnell, the BBC lease the space from The Mailbox and it's at the back, above the back entrance overlooking the Cube and the canals

There it is using Google's new 45 degree option!
