Not the most interesting post I know, but looks like TC7 now has some new ergonomic-y desk chairs replacing those black faux-leather(?) things - they were used yesterday on News at Six/Newsnight. Seems a bit late in that day to make a change like that when TC7 is not to be in use for much longer - our very own Media Boy (chrisckmedia) did post about a 'chair crisis' though so perhaps some BBC politics has been going on.
I might be imagining this..but years ago, did the BBC do 15mins of national, 30 mins of regional, and then another 15 of national?
Either Nationwide with 'National' setup top of the show, then local news for 25 mins, then back to National or Sixtu Minutes with National/Regional setup at the start, then National News for 15/20 mins, then local news for 20 mins then back to National.

And more recently, up to 2008 (I think), didn't they have the Six, then the Regional News, and then a recap of the national headlines from the presenters of the Six, who closed.

They are short term 'Hire-in' jobs as the nice leather ones have gone to W1!
#chaircrisis is just beginning here at TVC, they are too short and have mad wheels and presenters are flying across the studio - JP nearly came off the rostra the other night and Gorgeous George has to sit on TWO cushions!

2007 in fact. The 6 update lasted between 1999 and 2007 (ending when the One Show became permanent). I think the regions were then expected to recap the nationl headlines but I'm not sure many do now. NWT certainly doesn't but I think MT does. There was an update after the 10 too, ending in 2008 when the 10 temporarily moved to TC7 and thus couldn't do one due to Newsnight (the 10 update seemed a bit pointless anyway because of the short regional news, though it did provide some nice stings and closes for us pres fans!). Of course, these updates also became unviable because of the shared N6, and whilst I found the 6 update at 7 o'clock quite useful if you'd missed the programme, there is now the 8 o'clock bulletin which didn't exist then.
For anyone who can remember, did the 10 update start with the launch of the 10? The nations never took the 6 update but did they take the 10?

Yes, the late evening update only started in October 2000 when the Ten O'Clock News launched. When it was the Nine O'Clock News, the programme ended and it was followed by the regional news without going back to London.
Originally when the 1999 relaunch happpened, the sequence of closing the Six was different again. At about 18:55 the regions would hand back to London for a recap of the National headlines, and then would opt back out again for the regions to do a summary of their headlines and close their programme. TV Ark have a clip of this set up here http://hub.tv-ark.org.uk/dsplus/m.php?p=bbcmidlandstoday1999_close.mp4.
I've no idea how long this lasted before it changed to the more familiar set of of the regions closing and then handing back to London to close the hour, but I think the earlier attempt seems quite disjointed, which is probably why it was dropped.

Well I never remembered that. Does seem quite ridiculous, constant unnecessary opting. Also, how awful was that Midlands Today look?
Now if memory serves me correctly, in 2006 when the One Show was trialled, there was no junction and it went straight from the regional news, but then there was a regional news update at around 7:25. I wonder if anyone has any caps of that update (particularly if they're from NWT!)?

That's correct - the regions and nations handed to The One Show, who started with a short sting (which was really a graphic overlaid over a defocused studio shot), and The One Show ended with a hand back to the nations and regions. Was never very smooth - and the English regions (not sure about Nations) were provided with scripts for the national headlines, and fed pictures from London to go with them.
Did Midlands Today do any special / non standard handovers to the Birmingham One Show, as they were in the same building?
I remember Nick & Suzanne being out on the canalside outside the Mailbox the one evening, & the camera panning across to the special extension that had been built!
(It's a good job the Midlands Today studio didn't leak during that period, else they may have been stuck for studio space? Was The Politics Show studio bit still accessable at that point?)
IIRC Reporting Scotland never handed back to London and always did a mixed set of headlines at the end of their bulletin before handing straight to the weather.
