Interesting programme on the new technology being introduced into BBC News

"If we really want a continuous news programme, the technology is there to provide it!"

Can just see them! "That idea will never work!" - Just give it 9 years, chaps!

Have the BBC ever done this before? Later today, there will be the usual bank holiday News bulletin on BBC1 at 5.30 (Approx 20 minutes of national news followed a a short regional bulletin). But on BBC1 Scotland they will have Pointless at this time then the usual news hour, a half hour national bulletin followed by Reporting Scotland.

I'm sure this has happened for the last few years on the late Summer Bank Holiday.

It's a normal working day in Scotland, so you would expect them to want to follow the normal weekday schedule as much as possible.

What a great find. It's fascinating to see how far the technology has developed since 1988.

Also, a reminder in how documentary styles have changed - just how unnecessarily long was the establishing opening shot!

I take it BBC One Scotland will simply simulcast the NC 30 minute bulletin instead?

Surely the BBC One presenter will stay on at 6pm and the bulletin will go out on BBC One Scotland and BBC News. Similar to the cases of the news being slightly shifted on weekends for Scottish viewers.

No ticker on the Six 'Scottish' bulletin on the NC.

I think that happened last time - presumably there is some complication in feeding the clean version up to Glasgow.

I'm sure last time it was stated the issue was to do with providing a subtitiled version of the news for Scotland.
