I don't really see a problem with it now, at least the last couple of years there has been an absolute stop to moving the regional news to 2. Waiting half an hour isn't realy that much of a problem.
The real mess is that Scotland, NI and Wales have done their news so have to fill the English regional news slot.
Looks like NI weren't meant to have The One Show on anyway and are showing a special. Wales are showing Fake Britain which Wales weren't meant to be showing anyway and Scotland are filling with Coasts
I can hand pick at least six members here and now in this thread who have (for some reason) entirely reversed their comments made back in the third week of June about precisely the same subject.
Back then, it was generally "no problem, James, to show football on BBC1 and shift the news over to BBC2".
Yet today, the self same members disagree about running the tennis on 1!!!!!!!

Exactly. The days of switching the regional news to BBC Two are over - the BBC have learned their lesson on that one. Especially now that analogue is no longer an option for so many viewers.
This evening, the regional news was delayed due to an over-running sporting event of national significance, the coverage of which remained on the flagship channel in order to gain the maximum viewership. Its not the first time its happened. How many times has the Ten, and the late local bulletin, be delayed to accommodate a random football match - never mind a Wimbledon semi-final producing the first men's finalist in 74 years.
And was it last year that the same thing happened, and the regional news was shown, in full, at 8.30pm?

Mister Speaker, surely this is a u turn?
Ah, not quite, James! As far as I know, the news wasn't moved to BBC2 during the Euro 2012 competition; it was merely delayed. So, for instance the Six was scheduled for 7pm on BBC1 I seem to recall. The difference here is that the uncertainty of the tennis matches means the news moves to BBC2, hence inconveniencing millions of regional news viewers because they can't watch their own programme. Now, as I understand it, the regional news is going to be on BBC1 tonight anyway because the Murray match has finished, but more often than not viewers have been left without regional news because of Wimbedon. In essence, the BBC are caring only about sport viewers and not news. At least with the football, everybody got what they wanted, even if they had to wait a little bit longer than usual.
What they did was exactly the opposite, for no good reason. (chasing ratings is not a sufficiently good reason for a broadcaster which takes a license fee specifically so it doesn't have to chase ratings)
There was a very simple method of keeping everybody happy: put the tennis on BBC Two. There was even a scheduled 10 minute overlap to give people a chance to move over. But the BBC chose to do three things:
1) insult the tennis fans by implying that they're too thick to be able to cope with switching channels
2) annoy people wanting the regional news, on a day with significant news in many regions due to the weather/flooding
3) Mess up people's recordings, both by changing channels and then by screwing up the EPG
If BBC Sport want to keep pulling this kind of stunt, maybe they should pay for the BBC Two distribution to be regionalised? ...
Why? Outside of a few moaners on a forum nobody really cares about a 30 minute delay
I'm sure there will have been a fair number of people wanting to watch the regional news at the time that it was scheduled and will have been annoyed that it was delayed - it was something that could very easily have been avoided and wasn't. It's not a massive thing, but it's disrupting for no particular reason.

Personally I like the 'News' boxed logo here...
Compared to this horrible one...
It's the same thing really - the iPlayer logo is slightly different because it has a solid-coloured 6 overlaid onto the image, where as the normal titles have it blended in. Looks a lot nicer blended in too, that's just a bad cap where the number can't be seen very well.
