But the BBC as a public service broadcaster has a duty to provide regular news bulletins, despite audience figures. I'm sure they could put something else on at 6 every night and get a higher audience, but they can't do that. I don't personally feel they should be allowed to do so just to air football on bbc 1 instead of bbc 2.

But they are doing a regular news bulletin, they're doing it at 7pm for a full half hour with a full half hour regional news. If anything this will give the news a higher priority and a higher audience because it will get a decent lead-in from the football, which is a big event, rather than getting low ratings because of the competition. And the BBC aren't trying to downgrade or avoid doing news bulletins because they get high ratings every night. It's not like they move it willy nilly for The Voice or a soap, it's an event they have no control over.

Presumably you'd have argued that the Jubilee concert should have moved over to BBC2 at ten o'clock because the news should be on at ten. What's the difference? And what about at the weekend?

The difference with Monday and the concert is that it was a bank holiday and a national event. As opposed to an opening match in a football tournament which isn't even being held in the country. I said when I first made the comment that people would disagree with me, but I stand by my original point. News is more important than football and people do tune in expecting a bulletin at six. They should get it!

Why are you kicking up such a fuss? You'll get your full hour of news as usual, just an hour later. I don't see why Euro 2012 should get booted to BBC2 just because some people want the news at 6 pm. Is it that hard to just wait an hour or switch to the BBC News Channel? I can't stand football, but I can see the logic behind the BBC's decision. Football is our national sport and you're deluded if you think people are only interested in watching England games. That's like Wimbledon fans only watching when one of our players is on. In reality, there's a core of dedicated fans who'll watch the whole thing. I'm sure you'll get by with the news schedule being a bit strange for a while, just like the rest of us will. It could be worse for you - at least the BBC are giving you a normal length bulletin. ITV have tonight shaved 15 minutes off their normal news hour.

The BBC and ITV will be damned if they do and damned if they don't with this one. If they put the football (over which they have no control) on their main channels then news junkies will be upset. If they put it on their second channel, news junkies will be happy but the viewers of the regular programmes on those channels will then be upset. Not to mention the football fans being given the message that their tournament isn't important. I think we should just cut them some slack.

The tournament lasts two weeks. I'm sure we can all cope with the occasional moved news bulletin. The impact is much less than Wimbledon where it is often impossible to accurately schedule the news when matches can easily over run or start late.

I don't see that it's a problem... the vast majority of the country has now switched over to digital so I would assume that anyone desperate enough for the news at 6pm would know where to find it.

For the idiots that dont... Freeview Channel 80. Laughing

Truly innovative and stunning use of the screens on this evening's ten, really shows the incredible flexibility of the set. Hats off to whoever created the graphical masterpiece itself.

Think that award goes to Chris Cook (Media Boy on here, @chrisckmedia on Twitter) - did see his tweet about it but didn't see anything out of the ordinary on the intro.

What was it that was done?

It wasn't the opening shot, it was at before the report about the blank canvas art exhibition (21 mins or so in) - which probably gives away what was on the screens Wink

The BarCoS(?) to the screen left of the presenter were turned all white (ie blank) to highlight the Invisible art exhibition at the Hayward Gallery.

Well when I say white, I mean some were sort of whiteish, others off-greyish... I dunno, Worzel has a pantone chart, he'll explain better.

And for those complaining about the Six, why not relive all the excitement of late Autumn by turning your clocks back an hour for the duration of the tournament? Enjoy glorious 4am sunrises, and bitter 9pm starlight.

And Georgie Porgie Woo-woos at 6pm, just as God intended.

IIRC Fiona's script was "Look at this wall - what do you see?". I imagined Worzel leaping to his feet exclaiming "I SEE CRACKS! FINALLY THEY ARE REPORTING ON THE REAL NEWS!" before being bitterly disappointed they were not about to discuss the cracks issue with Ray Snoddy.

Plus I think it is spelled |3^RC0'S

A different backdrop behind Maxine today on the Sunday Politics bulletin:

*

Looks like she's actually sat in front of one of the more boring parts of the usual TC7 News backdrop - rather than the green screen. Also looks like she is sat behind a desk though, so not 100% sure.

Didn't realise it might not be CSO. They are usually sat behind a desk. Did someone say it was Moira's old desk?
