Is there? If they do move back to N8 they could surely use the pod for the 8pm Summary while NC is in the main part of the studio.

I think you're forgetting that as well as studio floor space you also need a gallery and people to staff it

And again - the NC would have to show the 8pm update instead of the weather which wouldn't be consistent - plus if it runs at the same time as the TOTH should be, that knocks the NC off time.

If they were in N8, why would the NC have to show the update?

If TC7 is not avail for any reason (Newsnight rehearsals - gets moved to 2030 cause of scheduling - or TC7 fails etc etc) then the 8pm comes from a CSO area in N9.
TC7 is used because the crew are there, it can give a much better clip and it has a 'Stingray' machine that does the wipes and transitions from clip to clip easily and simply.
(Stingray was the machine in N6 and TC7 that was used to run the 1/6/10 titles that keyed to reveal the studio if you remember)

Steve In Pudsey said that there was a suggestion that the NC will be moving to N8 after World goes - doubt it's true but that's what I was referring to.

Media Boy - cheers for that - wasn't aware their was a CSO area in N9, presume it's in that little lightbox area that has been used for Elections specials and nationals when N6 was out of use?

Just been back to the thread I thought I read that in and I misremembered what I had read - the 5pm and 9pm hours will move to N8 so the six and ten can rehearse/record in N6, as TC7 will have been closed by this point.

The public broadcaster’s flagship News 24 channel told viewers that the Tottenham Hotspur manager had been found guilty of one count of tax evasion.

Just goes to show that their renaming exercise 4 years ago was a complete waste of time.

'News 24 channel' probably proves it's made the brand weaker.

I'm always amazed at how big TV can make studios appear. The same applies to the London Tonight and Channel 4 News studios at ITN. Both are absolutely tiny but appear relatively spacious on screen. In London Tonight's case, the cameras are butted up almost against the desk and the atrium glass window is on the other side of the cameras - it's very tight.

That picture by Huw is quite incredible. One would never get the impression of such a small studio. They really make it come across as being far bigger on air. Are the news channels studios of similar size?
