I've posted this in the YouTube Gold thread in Media Websites, but it might actually get a wider viewership here. It's a very interesting video about how the BBC News virtual studio was created in the 1990s:

I know noggin has explained it to us several times over the years, but it's good to see it all happening for real. Those robotic cameras were very clever indeed. And I bet changing those 7 panels over several times a day was a real PITA for the crew.

Amazing video. Kind of explains how Michael Buerk once vanished after a news report during the Nine O' Clock News:

Great video. Do modern virtual sets like the ITV News one use all robotic cameras?

I'm not sure about the other cameras but the jib used on ITV News is operated by a human.

Are the barcodes on the studio floor a predecessor of Free-D?

HDTDT was a fab little show, as had been mentioned it always ended each series with a big over the top stunt sequence that was then explained in the opening episode of the next series. Eamon Holmes falling off the roof of TV Centre whilst trying to catch something he'd dropped and ending up hanging off the BBC logo was one, and IIRC the studio flooding was another.

A nice interview with Martin Lambie-Narin on here about the 2s

Lovely Christmas touch at the end of the late bully then. They superimposed a silver Christmas tree into the wide shot at the end, as well as some presents.

Anyone else hear an intermittent electronic beep on the National news just now (not test tone)? It was present on BBC One HD, don't know about other sources.

Yes - some odd green line at the bottom of the screen during reports too, with a crackling noise. Looks like N6 gallery is suffering a bit..

It's on here on BBC One in the North West as well. Assume it's the same in all regions. Seems to have stopped now at ten past ten.
