10.57 news update came from TC7 this morning.

Are they still doing the daytime summaries in TC7 or are they back to the clip studio?

Back to the clip studio

Ta, that's that theory shot down in flames! I was wondering if they were using TC7 because the Daily Politics was going to relaunch in TC7 rather than Millbank (as the Sunday version will come from TC7) and they were able to staff it for the bulletins.

Look out for a special local opt at 1815 in the Six O'clock news. Local reports on the economy from your region

Would this be a first then: to actually have an opted-out regional report in the middle of a main news programme other than on one of the 'specials' for elections etc?

No, they did an economy opt out a couple of years ago.

I've posted this in the YouTube Gold thread in Media Websites, but it might actually get a wider viewership here. It's a very interesting video about how the BBC News virtual studio was created in the 1990s:

I know noggin has explained it to us several times over the years, but it's good to see it all happening for real. Those robotic cameras were very clever indeed. And I bet changing those 7 panels over several times a day was a real PITA for the crew.

Wow I've been looking for that for ages.

Me too, Philip. I've never seen it before but I've heard people mention it from time to time. It was well worth the wait! Some of the YouTubers commenting on the video have suggested that the owner send off a copy to TV Ark on DVD. I certainly hope that happens so it can be preserved for posterity.

Great video. Do modern virtual sets like the ITV News one use all robotic cameras?

It would be nice to see some more from How Do They Do That as well. I seem to remember they used to do a big action stunt sequence from time to time, and I'm sure there was one that involved someone hanging off the slanted BBC logo sign on the side of TV Centre.
