It happens when the drop down screen is split between "vector processors"...
The backgrounds are fed from multiple slaved HD servers, these are fed - along with SD video feeds for the "windows" - into multiple vector processors, that then feed each 4:3 video cube separately... I think...

Um, I'm guessing this question should go in here, as it's about the studio used for the Six... or something...
Anyway, in TC7, why is there seemingly a delay on some of the screens? When an image drops down, some of the screens are slightly ahead, so the image gets to the bottom quicker. Why is this?

Six in N6 tonight - bit unusual, but everything's been weird this weekend, daytime backgrounds on Friday and Sunday's 10 and nightime backgorunds on Breakfast.

Because the News at One is run by the News Channel, and is effectively a desk bound half hour summary, requiring only minimal (if any) rehearsal time at all.

That's the way it should be, IMO. It seems strange to have the News at Six in a different studio to the other BBC News bulletins (and the channel). I know they have to do rehearsals, but the News at One manages OK.

Yes. You can't get much weirder than a lighter backdrop.
There's more than that, though. At the weekend, News 24 joined World for a bulletin at lunchtime and extra filler programmes were used at odd times.

So why was the 6 in N6 then? Seems to be some strange goings on over the last few days.

The weekend issues were due to the air con in N6 failing - so to keep the temperature down they played extra programmes and joined World so they could turn the studio lights off to get it to a temperature bearable for them to do the BBC One midday summary.
Then TC7 suffered a technical meltdown which pushed the Six into N6.
This sort of thing always happens when the weather gets a bit warmer!!
