Wasn't that after the bomb outside TVC?

Indeed - they didn't want to show footage of the newsroom in TVC in case anything happened. Or it was empty, or damaged. Something similar to that anyway, I'm sure someone can confirm..

IIRC it was after the bomb attack, and they didn't want to show the newsroom.

However, I always thought the newsroom shot was just a looped recording, with the mirror image slightly delayed so that someone wasn't seen coming down both staircases at the same time.

I can't see the point of it having been live.

There was a video of Huw Edwards doing a tour of the studios and he said it was on a delay in case anything happened - so it was live. I'm not sure if that was the case when it went red!

No that red background was purely for the few days after the bomb, when the newsroom was sealed off as crime scene.

IIRC the second version of N6 with the red panels in the newsroom was not a live shot as some extra tweaking of the image was done before it was put on the screens so it looked a bit nicer.

Was this really necessary? I mean so many news channels, including BBC's have real live newsrooms behind the presenters.

It was nice to see George Alagiah using the right hand 'baking tray' in TC7 during the Six tonight. I don't remember the presenter ever doing this before; it's normally just a wasted resource, with only the occasional correspondent using it for studio based reports.

I think I recall it being used by Sophie Rayworth in the recent past. With the same director at the helm I believe.

Mr A looks lost there. Too big a space.
