There was one today and it was scheduled but from tomorrow no news at 3.00pm.

Another nail in the coffin for the news summary then. How long until they axe all of the daytime summaries altogether? It's a shame that both the BBC and ITV have cut back their news summaries so much in recent years. I remember when BBC One/Two had news summaries on the hour between 10am and about 4pm in the 1990s. ITV had regular summaries, too.

I fully understand the argument that the vast majority of people can get their news from news channels, the web, or even on their mobiles these days. However, sometimes it is too much trouble to faff about with all that and you just want a quick update between programmes on a mainstream channel. What are people in that position supposed to do now? I know in the short gap between programmes on BBC One/Two, I wouldn't have the time to switch over to News 24 and get all the headlines there.

That's what I like about 60 seconds, or indeed, channel 5's old updates. do they still do those?

I find all the daytime updates very useful and interesting. Shame the 3pm one has been cut. What was the reason? Not enough trailers in the junction between the two programmes? Wink

They were still doing them a few months back, but the last time I watched Five during the evening was before the latest relaunch.

Instead of being On the hour every hour between 6.00am and 12.10am, except for 4.00pm, 5.00pm and 10.00pm, they're usually now 3.00pm, 8.00pm and 9.00pm these days.

Again got to agree with Rob, it's a shame the News summaries have disappeared from the BBC and ITV, I thought scrapping the one on ITV in the afternoon wasn't a good idea, the excuse was the time would be made up in the extended Lunchtime News, which didn't even last twelve months.

Anyway back to the BBC...

That may be true for daytime, but let's not forget it wasn't that long ago that the Beeb launched the 8pm summary. Whatever people here may think of it, it's still going to be watched by more people than any daytime summary between two ghastly Lorne Spicer shows. So I think it might be a bit premature to be writing the news summary's obituary just yet.

Edit - martin beat me, the music played but no visuals, just a shot of Jane Hill shuffling her papers!

Whoops, they forgot to play the BBC News At 1 titles there, we just had the music playing and Jane Hill flicking through her papers for ten seconds.

God - that was shambolic!

Countdown music faded 7 secs to the end, titles failed with opening shot of Jane, music played over.

What's happened to the BBC News logo on the astons as well? Without it they're just a white box, and they look awful.
