Some really experimental, original shots on the News at Six tonight. However, I can't say I liked any of these non-standard shots. The close-ups with such a perspective that made Kate look like a giant, and another which showed the inside of the desk. The director shouldn't be on the Six again!

So people moan on here about stodgy direction on the news and when they try something different they should be sacked. Are you from the Daily Mail?

No, I'm a Times and Guardian reader, myself. I think you'll find there is a difference between a good shot and a bad shot. MY OPINION being that some of the shots that were used earlier this week weren't best suited to the studio, to Kate or to the style of programming. I am by all means an advocate of new shots in the news and to be more inventive, less formulaic, but my taste for those shots wasn't very warming. You'll find that I was rather tongue-and-cheek with my last comment in the quoted post above, also.

Long time no see for Emily Maitlis on the 10. She hasn't done the weekday edition of the programme in months! (waits for someone to say when it last was)

Is N6 where the News Channel comes from normally, or what exactly?

N6 is the old nationals studio, which the news channel moved into, and shares with the nationals for the 1 and 10. The 6 normally comes from TC7 (in the main TVC block), which is also used for Newsnight, ewsround and Breakfast, as they can rehearse without causing the News Channel to decamp (like they do before the 10 for 30 minutes, to N8, the normal World studio and former News 24 studio, this is because TC7 is doing Newsnight stopping the 10 from going there).

Huw Edwards was standing for the last report on the ten tonight - very rare, I think. But he was sitting down again for the regional handover.

I'm presuming it was because the last report was about Stephen Hawking's comments about God, so they put a big picture of space on the Barcos.

Not very exciting, but noteworthy I thought!!

Is it a slow news day or something? The last story on tonight's Six about 20p coins with no date is at least a year old, and there didn't seem to be anything new in it

I may have gone mad, but I could have sworn Fiona Bruce just ended the ten just now by inviting us to get more news by switching over to "the bbc's national and international news channels." Anyone else hear it? Mistake?

"Well, there's more national and international news on the BBC News Channel, but now we can join our teams where you are. Goodbye" as best as I can tell from the BBC iPlayer. Not to worry Wink

The teatime weekend news came from TC7 today because of the Labour Leadership simulcast:
