As discussed on the other forum I'd have thought that any backup plan where everything would decamp to Salford would be if there was a major problem - either something that renders BH out of action for a long time or something that made the whole of BH and Millbank inaccessible (i,.e. if a large part of central London was cordoned off)

Does anyone know why the virtual screens in Studio A aren't 'calibrated' correctly? Is this so certain forum members still have something calibration-related to complain abaout? As seen in the cap below, the red strips don't align with each other as they go down.

I also noticed that when on the side shot below, when the camera was moving closer in and around the desk, that the background behind moved slightly also - is this clever camerawork so that the newsroom camera mirrors the movement of the studio camera, or is just that when facing the virtual backdrop, bits are cut off at either side to give a more realistic effect when the camera moves?

I have to say that the "calibration" errors are there to make it look more realistic, and are definitely to annoy a certain M. Webb. I have to say I rather like it, and anything that annoys Matt W. is a plus point in my book.

The newsroom backdrop must be cut off on the sides - I'm not sure how the camera would be able to move in all the required ways to mirror the cameras in the studio, and I think it would be far too much work and faffing around for such a small effect.

Excuse my supreme ignorance: but why do they need to use that virtual studio in the first place? Is this used for the 30mins which - in the past - ran from N8?

Surely between the new News Channel studios, and the vast array of new studios that World has, there is no need for the virtual set at all???

Oh hang on - Newsnight! forgot about that. Newsnight uses the Soapy set, doesn't it?

Not 30 mins, but one whole hour from the virtual set. It is used to allow rehearsals for the Ten which is in the usual home of National/NC's Studio E.

Pretty much, and I'd be surprised if the person interviewed isn't a forum member.

It's difficult to say but I think I detect an air of sarcasm in the gentleman's voice.

I'm not entirely sure. It's quite odd if it is a genuine viewpoint, as he sounds very excited by the newsroom.

And BBC World, they had a man on Newswatch who loves the new newsroom so much he'd rather they didn't put the presenters in front of the backdrop. He cited a woman with a new coat and some flowers and what goes on on the screens as interesting bits.

I think Samira won on the sarcasm stakes at the end though.

EDIT: If anyone knows an Ian Boyle here, they might be the culprit.
