Speaking of the countdowns, Will the great almighty paulm upload the BBC NC countdowns? Very Happy

Yep. Planning to. Tomorrow hopefully

True to his word,
BBC News Countdown: A1 http://vimeo.com/62444961
BBC News Countdown: A2 http://vimeo.com/62447761
BBC News Countdown: B1 http://vimeo.com/62444962
BBC News Countdown: B2 http://vimeo.com/62447764
BBC News Countdown: C1 http://vimeo.com/62444960
BBC News Countdown: C2 http://vimeo.com/62447763
BBC News Countdown: 90s http://vimeo.com/62444959

These are looking great. But why are they not named ABCDEF? I've tried to find a reason for A1 A2 etc. so excuse me if I'm missing the obvious.

My guess was that there are two different end shots of Broadcasting House, for daytime and nighttime. The clips are the same throughout the two variations but are shown in a different order.

Seems odd that version 1 don't all end on daytime BH shots and version 2 don't all end on nighttime shots (unless I'm mistaken). Would have led to more variation, instead of having to use A1, A2 or C2 during the day and the other three at night,

I take it the shots featuring Simon, Carrie, Joanna and Sophie Long are staged? I don't remember seeing any reports by them in the field reporting on stories in the areas they feature in the clips. Did they go out and film them covering a 'fake report' as it were for inclusion on the countdown?

Indeed - I wondered exactly the same - in fact, Simon appears to be emulating the shots of Kate Silverton (on the Millennium Bridge in front of Tate Modern) albeit on a different bridge.

He's in Salford outside MediaCityUK, on a bridge over the Salford Ship Canal.

BBC News Channel opting out of BBC News at 1, so presumably they will be in C once Cameron's stopped talking. Looks like they had a few issues with the lower thirds, perhaps this was when they were switching? All the graphics disappeared for a while - the ticker, logo and clock for quite a while.

It happened and for the brief time, it was like Joanne was looking at the wrong camera. :p

World News Today is there unless you're referring to the other piece used for WNT.

I mean the Zeinab version, the new hold of it is nice.

Thursday at midday will make for some interesting viewing - the start of the 12 hour strike by the NUJ and BECTU. Presumably Joanna and Ben will only present for an hour, then Gavin Grey or whoever will come in. But it'll be interesting watching the newsroom, will we see everyone walking out on screen at the top of the hour?!

Being a BECTU strike, there's bound to be lots and lots of technical problems, bad directing, and basic graphics too.

In the past they've always played out a pre-recorded hour which conveniently avoided showing the newsroom behind N8/N9 emptying. But that was at midnight - whether that would be acceptable at 12pm is another matter.

Suspect a joint service from C might be in order though.

The technical side might not be as noticeable this time, or it will be a complete car crash. If somebody who knows what they are doing with Mosart is working it should be fine.

I always remember reading many contributors writing how awkward the handover from the "Ten o Clock News" to Chris Eakin on the NC, used to be.

Why does the current transition from the "Ten o Clock News" to NC "The Papers" similarly feel very clumsy and repetitive, viz:

- End of "Ten o Clock News";
- Promo' for "Dr Who";
- The Weather bulletin;
- Clive Myrie (standing in front of screens) going through front pages of newspapers (which are In), plus giving details of 2 guest reviewers;
- Coming later ... "Sportsday" ... which is after "The Papers";
- Intro' and music to "The Papers", Clive and 2 guest reviewers sat around desk, introduces the reviewers ... but first;
- "The headlines at 10:31" ...;
- Then to "The Papers" - AGAIN introducing the 2 guest reviewers.
